My wife has no patience for DUIs, unsignalled lane changers, and other miscreants of the road, but she likes to say that as someone born in Texas, she has a God given right to speed. I entered her life just in time to prevent her from spending some of her God given time in the Commonwealth of Virginia's finest women's correctional facilities for exercising her speeding rights outside of Texas.
For someone who is obsessed with Ferraris, however, I drive like an anxiety prone great grandmother. I still get pulled over far more often than she does. Cops are willing to give a petite, attractive woman far more leeway than a roguish young man driving an expensive or flashy car. This problem was far worse when I was a bit younger. I didn't drive NSXs, Diablos, or F-cars, but a relatively new BMW, Mercedes, or Porche was wholly sufficient to attract all sorts of unpleasant attention. I used many of the bowing and scraping "yes, sir" techniques described in previous posts to minimize the damage. Even so, I had to suffer indignities such as being tailgated by a marked police car in rural southern Maryland for 10 minutes after dark and far from civilization. When I couldn't take it anymore, I calmly turned onto a side street and into a small parking lot, at which point the cop promptly turned on his lights. You can't really say he stopped me because I was already parked. His rationale for pulling me over was that I had been "ghost breaking", which he failed to clearly define, but seemed to refer to the light braking I had to do while he was following me to burn off a bit of speed as small town speed traps would appear. You cannot deal rationally with cops like this. You must be sickeningly ingratiating and obsequeous. It is "unfair" that you will be singled out as a young guy driving a flashy car, but it is manifest and unalterable reality.

Sorry Hessian. I don't buy the singled out becuase you're a young guy in a flashy car argument. I was a young guy in a flashy car once, and I didn't get pulled over all the time. Why? because I gave nobody a reason to pull me over.

I'm not entirely sure I grasp the intended subtext of your comment. I did not mean to condone any reckless driving or pernicious speeding. Clearly, Dan needs to drive with a feather foot for some time, and he probably deserved some if not all of his tickets. I was simply trying to remind him of a few basic facts of life as a member of the only primate species that regularly drives cars.
If you are implying that I was attracting the attention of the police with my driving rather than my appearance and the appearance of my cars, then there is essentially nothing I can say that will convince you otherwise. I have recieved one speeding ticket in my 13 years of driving, and that was a 5 mph over the limit ticket I recieved in a notorious speed trap when I was new to the area and was simply following the flow of traffic. All of my friends mocked me mercilessly for my slow driving in college, and yet I got pulled over far more than any of them. Generally, I did not get tickets because I am exceedingly good at bowing and scraping, and my cars rarely had the small defects like burned out tail lights that give the cops an easy ticket. As I have aged, and become a bit less scruffy, I have had fewer encounters with the po-po. I'm quite certain that my driving hasn't changed. In fact, my driving has probably gotten worse.

Under 25 and male with all these violations....how do you still get insurance if you don't mind my asking? Do you just pay like $15k a year or something?

Excellent question. Maybe his servants take care of the insurance.

If I recall, Dan is a hard working guy if I remember from the NSX board. However, I still have the same question regarding the insurance. 25 and under male is the worst category for insurance. With so many tickets, it must be a fortune.

lol, shhhhhh thats not what quartermaster wants to hear

I got a good deal! It would actually cost ALOT more to ONLY have the NSX with 0 tickets than it does to have all 3 with all the tickets. One reason is one truck and the NSX are pleasure the second is all the tickets only count towards my main vehicle; a beat up Dodge Ram, that only went up $400/6 months with em all, so Im lucky in that regard.
