How do I get birds to find a new resting place? I get about 1000 birds 3 times a day. CROWS! Very Noisy. Them come in at 6:30AM till about 7am. then come back at 3ish and 6ish at night. I was told to hang a fake owl on the tree in the front on the house! Any help is APPRECIATED!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
can't help but can commiserate..... we have the same problem here, except with grackles. damn things are nothing more than rats with wings and they're protected.....
Assuming that you can't shoot them (with paintballs, pellets--something that doesn't use gunpowder) you have a couple of choices. Farm supply catalogs sell propane canons (THAT will make you popular with your neighbors) and various "flasher" ballons and ribbons--don't know how well they work, but you could tie those to the pole in your photo. Crows are smart--I would imagine that they would learn to ignore the above--owls don't really predate crows--you'd have more luck with a fake peregrine falcon decoy--not sure if anyone makes those. They do make crow decoys (attractors) for hunting--Cabelas sells 'em--perhaps you could put those someplace else, and attract the birds away from your home. Lastly, I have read that people use green light lasers to scare away birds (www.wickedlasers.com, www.starphaser.com)--though the legality (and safety) of units over 5 milliwatts is questionable. Maybe call a pest control person?
Put a dead animal carcass about 1.5 blocks upwind every three days for a month. They should get the hint. BT
They seem to be a real pest in So. CA. I don't think they have any enemies. Same thing happened to me so I picked one off one day. If you think they are noisy now wait till you pick off one of their fine feathered friends. They'll go nuts, squawking and flying around. All it will take is you standing there with a pellet gun the next time and they'll bypass your place. Make sure your neighbors don't see you shooting at them.
I had crows at my place last summer and this works very well...... Wait till they're all nice and settled......then BANG !!!!! Light a firecracker off!!! They will all leave once some take off from being startled. And they won't turn back. Try putting the firecracker on a plate or something so the sound in directed up and away, don't just throw it in the air. Hopefully they will associate you're place with fear and stay somewhere else. Let me know how it works! It's fun to watch!!! Best! Wes
Well, My " CROW" alarm clock is back! 5am on the button! I took a quick video this time! Maybe they wont like the fact that they have been exposed and posted on the net and they might leave me alone. It is much louder than the video shows. Drivin me nuts!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC8OzH_2iSw Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are you in a part of the world where firearms being discharged will get you arrested?? If not, get a buddy to make you some blank loads for a 12 gauge. Loud noises and bright flashes will scare them off. If your object is simply to get them to roost somewhere elese, then this may work. They birds work as a pack, if you start to kill some of them off, then new alpha males will simple take over, and the flock (a murder technically) will stay put, or, frighteningly, get bigger!!! LOUD NOISES, BRIGHT FLASHES!!! THAT'LL GET 'EM MOVING. Good friggin' luck if you're not allowed to make loud noises at 5 AM in your neighborhood. Alternative might be bright reflective tape hung in the trees. Wind makes it flap, motion scares the birds off. Desperate?? HIRE THESE GUYS. http://www.birdcontrolintl.com/ Go get 'em. Dave
I don't know, and I am not sure I wanna find out! In all seriousness, it is driving me crazy, my one day off I wake up at 5 to hear these things yelp. It is really loud, actually woke up my daughter as well. I will try the few ideas you have with the tape and light. the video is not up yet, i guess youtube is busy.
