Sounds for real, and may be the deal of the decade. Price is unbelieveable. Knowledgeable dealer/seller's personal car, no engine out, treated well. ALL the paperwork, even shipping documents.

If I had the time to get on an airplane today, I would.

Thanks for the info and motivation, I got the car bought this afternoon. I've got a business trip for the rest of the week and was quite motivated to not leave it until Friday.

I've got another BBi and really like the cars but have always wanted one "in the wrapper". This car has fit the bill for me.

It's an 84, 5500 miles, bought by the current owner/dealer in Nebraska in 1987, never titled so still on MSO, has all the paperwork including shipping from Europe, Amerispec conversion, still has plastic covering parts of the interior. Red with boxer trim, cream with red piping interior, red carpet, black dash. The owner is very enthusiastic and had gone to California alot in the early 70's and purchased other exotics. He was selling the car to pursue his dream of a Miura. He is 57 years old and has always stored the vehicle at his parents house to keep it out of harms way.

If anyone knows of a Miura please let me know and I'll forward the information to him.

I'm officially a double BBi happy guy.

Congratulations! If the car is as described, you bought the deal of the decade. I chatted with the seller, definetely seemed like he knew the car well. Owns a few Lambos.

    Your beautiful car:

Thanks for posting the pic.....and getting back with the car info!

The amerispec conversion was a big plus for me. The marker lights were not enlarged and equally important was the bumpers were adapted by mounting a plate through the existing turn signal holes in the original bumper cover. So when it gets removed you simply reinstall the original turn signals (which he had).

When I asked if the car had hex nuts or three eared knock offs, he said he had bought the spinners but had never installed them.

    A very pleasant experience.

Congratulations!! Please look into whether or not it has original sodium exhaust valves. I found out the hard way after having my BB for three months. There is no predictably safe mileage for waiting to change them if you've got them. Change them for either Stainless Steel valves or the new technology sodium filled valves.

    Enjoy!

I called on that car in the morning and the seller wanted to call me back later on the price. I got wrapped up in work and called him in the afternoon. He told me the car was sold 20 minutes earlier.
I saw it in Hemmings earlier but never called on it as no price was listed; another pie in the sky, I thought.
Oh well, probably just as well, if I use the " but Honey, can we keep it ? It followed me home " bit one more time, they could bury me in it. Within the week.
CONGRATS prototypefan. A nice find !

    Great find, Congrats!

The only way to own a super low mileage Boxer is to have it as your second Boxer.
Shoot, If it was my only BBi, I would double that 5500 miles in the first weekend.
It's alright to sit and stair at them but drivin' them is really where it's at.

Didn't read that you already have one, I'm sure you know all about the valves, and frankly, after I wrote my previous post it occured to me that I dont know if the injected years had them anyways! Cheers on the new family member!

In reality though your situation was a bit different as David F posted on the other site, Carobu made a huge error thinking they could regrind the sodium valves which caused them to overheat and break prematurely. Carobu has no-one to blame but themselves for this happening and saving a small amount on new valves vs the machine work on the old valves as its very rare for Boxers to experience broken valves.
They should have rebuilt your motor for just cost of new parts at least IMO.

I don't want to bash them but when I thought I had a bad cylinder due to low compression in no 4 I talked to them out of curiousity for rebuilding costs for my motor, compared to others I talked to they offered no advice just am I interested in sending my motor type of hard sales pitch to have it rebuilt for $20k, several others I talked to offered advice and told me to drive it and mentioned other things to try and a rebuild was a last resort, just rubbed me wrong and brought up red flags as all they were interested in was the money.

    Oh it got better....

J&E would only sell four pistons when I only needed one.....

Total Seal makes the only rings that fit and they will be ready in three days, or.....uh.....they're now backordered for three weeks........

meanwhile I had paid for the heads to be air freighted from CA to VA based on the three day rings quote, only to find that I could have sent the heads by camel....

    and now....

everything should be here at the beginning of next week, and.....

my FOW mechanic goes in for knee surgery on wednesday!

So I SHOULD see my boxer by St. Patrick's Day.

    :) :) :) :)

Once you get her back on the road and romp that big 12 with those 12 downdraught Webers sucking air it will be all worth it and this forgotten, I know as I have fogotten all the problems with my car and think of it differently now instead of all its problems it had now I view it as a great reliable Ferrari.

I seriously contemplated buying your car and thought this time I'll surely get rid of the 328 and have 2 Boxers but you beat me to it so this could have been my problem as well so what happened to your car hits a little closer to home for me. But it went to a good home and I really don't need 2 of these cars as much as I would try and rationalize it to myself.

Well I don't know where you live, but I am trying to get a first annual Boxer Bash together during the FCA National here in DC this spring. You'd be first on my list to take 27001 for a drive. She does sound amazing with the Webers open and the Tubis roaring! We managed to get about 200 Corvette guys to drop what they were doing and turn, run and gawk as we poured by their club drive on Skyline Drive this past November!

There are no doubt some sour moments with these cars. They are, in most cases, far outweighed by the sheer unadulterated joy that is shared when all is well.

I actually still feel in my gut that the BB really has less surprises in store for me than my QV.

    Regards,

I live in Las Vegas, maybe one of these days we will run into each other
    at an event or something.

I know what you are talking about, that day I took my BB for a ride with the pics in the other thread their was a huge Harley run in Lake Mead to Overton, must have been a 100 bikers outside a bar on the street in Overton flipping out when they saw and heard my BB cranking their heads to hear something more loud and crazy sounding than any Harley, got plenty of thumbs up on the road as well from them passing by though Lake Mead in the daytime.

    Good luck with your BB

    Jeff
