I recently bought a 1979 308 GTB that had upgraded mirrors. I think they had the newer style with accordian boots. Almost rectangular. I have the old vitaloni California which I think look ten times better, but do not have the rubber gaskets that go between mirror and body. Anybody have a set available? Thanks

Awesome picture! Can you post it in high-res?

    Thanks,
    Greg

PS--my 1977 308 could also use new mirror gaskets, if anybody has a source...

I could source it given the loan of a good gasket to make a mold from. (Or 2 gaskets if left & right gaskets aren't identical).

Just reproduced something similar, a grip ring for an early 308 GTB gas cap:

Hmm, If I could borrow a mirror & someone had some pix of the real gasket, I should be able to machine a master part & make a mold from it.

    Hi Verell,

Along the same lines a number of us have been looking for the mirror gasket that goes under the metal mirrors used on some of the older cars such as Dino's and Daytona's. I think the footprint is somewhat smaller than the Calif style used on 308 series cars.

I don't have a good one to provide you otherwise I would just send it to you.

Verell, i just ordered a pair of http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/ProductDetails.asp?RecId=1555 as my stock euro mirrors can't angle enough for how low we are going with the seats (you know the situation). If these are the same gaskets i have in my STOCK mirrors and i don't need them with the new mirror, let me know in mid-March if you still need gasket samples and i could send you my old ones.

This may touch some nerves but actually both the rectangular ones AND the round ones are correct for 1977.

Both styles were OEM to my two cars, one in Canada and the other across the continent at Ron Tonkin.....

The oval ones are available thru Ducati shops , we've heard, and Reoriginals has the rectangular accordian boot ones although the LH and RH are not the same color...

There is also 'small' rectangular, as I have in a matched pair, then later they got a little bit larger. They are actually the better design, if Enjoy the music had them he could just twist the double ball joint mounting as required.

The teardrop ones only go up and down on a horizontal axis, not nearly as good, and are much more prone to breaking from accidental impacts, I'd think.

    rcraig,

The bases are not the same size, you may have to touch up the door paint from the different footprints of the bases.....

Guys, Thanks so much for all the great input. Verell, If someone has the gaskets and you make a mold, please drop me a line.
I know that the rectangular ones were original on some cars, but (boy does this sound stupid) I just like the look of the tear-drop shape ones better even though they don't cover that well.. Sexier? The rectangular ones on my car also vibrate like crazy.
On another note please let me say that I am not a fan of most chat rooms, but this one is the most incredible I have seen. I have been reading it for awhile even though I just recently got my car after 30 years of lusting. I am such a Ferrari nut friends called me Ferrari Bob.
The room is filled with a very knowledgable group that sincerely wants to help others further enjoy the one thing a lot of us enjoy most in life. (sorry family except for you guys).
To end I am in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and if you're going to be in the area look me up. Lots of great back roads here. And the National Meet is here this year too.
Sorry about wasting so much space.

Sheeeeit, man, wasting time AND space is what it's all about here! LOL!

And money of course, lot's of money!

Is Craig your last name? As in Elijah Craig whiskey (18 year old)??

Just curious as I have family of that surname ...the whiskey isn't bad either!

If you take those mirrors off post back we are always swapping spares and stuff...except greg328, who puts it all on ebay! ;)

    (Texans joshing each other, there.....)

What other chat sites sit around and talk gaskets and mirror shapes? We're sick individuals, for sure! Wait 'till the discussion on fender louver color breaks out! LOL!

    "I say black anodized!!! .....POW!"

"No, you dumb@$$, they match the BODY COLOR, before the QV.....SMACK!"

    ROTFLMAO!

Hmmmm....back to the subject, check both your ball swivels inside the bellows, make sure those are tight, there's a set screw, IIRC.

Then you might want to experiment with a rubber gasket material as a base gasket, just quick trimmed to match and see if it improves. Mine don't shake like that, although if the ball joints are loose I'd think they'd droop all the time from where you set them.

Remember the scene from Gumball movie, where they throw the mirror out the window....."Inna Ferrari, it doesa notta matter, whadisa behind you!"

Thanks Tex-Last name is Craig. We have the same great taste in cars. I think that makes u srelated. Good Idea about the rubber on the rectangular ones. I tried tightening them with the tension screw. Now I can barely adjust the things.
