    Hello fellow "F"-chatters,

I just wanted to an approximate time value to compare my actual work against on my 79 308GTB.

I have the pans off, oil drained, ready, set go.........

At his point how long would you estimate that the actual R&R should take?

    Apreciate your input.

    Chris.

under an hour to replace both seals, depending on how much trouble you have removing/clearing the trans shift rod past the shaft thats goes to the shift arm in the cabin. I had to jack my motor a little bit.

Then plan on another hour futzing with the shift alignment. This is best done with an assistant in the cockpit to try the gears in between adjustments, & to hold the shifter in place while doing the adjustments.

BTW, Kermit (www.durable1.com) makes a nifty shifter alignment tool. He also makes delrin shift bushings & you should at least replace the one you'll be disconnecting. Oh,yes, Kermit also makes a nifty tool for pressing the bushing out. It's just a bolt & the right size washers & a piece of steel tubing, but it's so affordable that it's better to buy than try to make your own & get the meas'ts right.

Actually it would depend on how long you lay there taking in the weld quality and engineering details from the lower vantage point. Could take weeks.

    Hi,

I just did this the other week. Contrary to most of the research I did, you do not need to disconnect the engine mounts and lift the engine (or at least I didn't)

You do need to loosen the bracket which holds the fuel cross over pipe. Pull out the shaft as far as you can. Then stick a screwdriver into the hole where the bolt normally goes and you can wiggle it all the way out. It's pretty tight, but possible.

Verell (or anyone else who may know) - the tool from durable1 that you mention above - do you need to remove the shaft to install it. My guess is no. I'm may be tempted with this, but can't be bothered to remove it again now I just got it back together.

Don't need to remove the shaft, just remove the thru-bolt thru the bushing, & separate the 2 ends sideways enough so you can get at both ends of the bushing.
