    WHAT!!??? The most expensive 3 day package (tickets only) in Montreal is about 450$ CDN. The same package in:

    Hockenheim 420$ Euros (roughly 609$ CDN);
    San Marino & Monaco 445 $ Euros (650$ CDN);
    GB 400$ Euros (560$ CDN).

    ...and that does not include the ridiculous cost of living in the "old continent".

    Just saw EUR 815 for the same seating area for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in Monaco. Our tickets for San Marino in April are EUR 598 and that's for two of us with excellent seats at Acque Minerali and the same section D on Saturday (you sit where you want in the section on Saturday).

    Anyone else headed to Le Mans this year? start has been moved ahead to 5 pm.

    LeMans historics - to see the P4's and 917's
    Monaco historics - for all the early GP cars
    Goodwood Revival - to see everything
    Goodwood Festival of Speed - as above
    Mille Miglia - as a participant
    guess it all depends on what you like :)

    Don't shoot the messenger. I read it on www.pitpass.com, which I thought cited some FOA source or something. I clearly remember them saying that, but maybe I'm wrong about the source. One thing to consider though, is that they are speaking from a European perspective. I'm sure airfare factors into it.

    Oh..I was just talking ticket prices. I keep forgetting that I LIVE in Montreal.

    Even at that, given that the exchange rate between the Euro and CDN dollars favors the Euro, and that the cost of living in Montreal is far less expensive than in Europe, Montreal would still be an attractive package for a European. However, I'm not familiar with travel costs from Europe, so overall, it maybe cheaper for an Italian to take in Monaco or Hockenheim, than Montreal.

    BTW...my travel costs...2.50$ subway fare to the track ;)

    Great to know there's someone else who appreciates the early years of GP racing. You might consider adding See Red 2006 to your list of events. This is the year to celebrate 100 years of GP racing.

    I heard it's pretty hard to get a hotel at a decent price within reasonable proximity to the track and generally where you want to party at night. Is this true? I'd like to attend the race this year. I went to the Indy GP, but the town didn't sit well with an elitist yuppie like myself.

    Here's the link: (we're headed there - should be a great weekend of vintage racing)

    http://www.see-red.uk.com/

    GP 100 at SeeRed will take place at Donington Park over the weekend of 23-24 September 2006 and will be a very special celebration of 100 years since the first Grand Prix. The late September date will provide a stunning finale to the end of the historic racing season in the UK.

    ‘GP100’ will mark this landmark with a grid re-creation from every era of the past motor racing century;

    Edwardian
    Vintage
    Post Vintage Thoroughbred
    Post War front and rear engined Grand Prix cars
    Thoroughbred Grand Prix Series
    Current Formula One machinery Demonstrations
    The main focus of the weekend is Sunday 24 September where these events will be run in chronological order in ten races. Saturday 23 will also be an action packed day with a Formula One demonstration and practice for all of Sundays races and races for the Lansdowne Motor Cycle Races, Vintage Sports-Car two hour team race and other grids to be confirmed.

    Another vote for LeMans. It may not be the same as a spectator, but there is a very special vibe that goes with a 24-hour race. We had a 24-hour karting series here in Dubai for several years, and I was fortunate enough to be crew on one of the competitive teams for a while. There's just nothing like the feeling when the sun is coming up. You've survived the night, but there is still a very long day ahead. Our little kart races felt just like it did the one time I was at Daytona in the '70s just hanging about with a team that was racing an AMC Hornet. Wasn't actually crew, but an "interested onlooker." Even "gopher" would be too prestigious a title, but it was magic nonetheless.

    So do a 24-hour race. And Daytona is just around the corner!

    BTW, our kart team won the championship, and the prize was a drive at LeMans! Not the proper race, but a 24-hour kart race on the Circuit Alain Prost a few weeks later. Talk about a party!

    If you do go to LeMans, do not miss the cathedral. Best flying butresses ever!

    If you're talking about the one a few days ago, no, the politics of racing here are pretty ugly, nobody that used to race here is involved any more. Shame, but that's how it goes....

    But I read some update on the Dubai hall of fame for F1/themepark. That looks to become very promising and put Dubai on the racing map.

    Montery
    Goodwood (holy grail)

    F1

    Monte Carlo
    Montreal
    Spa
    Indy (sucks)

    Open wheel (IRL or CART)

    Las Vegas (good mix of extra entertianment at racing venue)
    Milwaukee (quick, good access)
    Texas
    Long beach (crown jewel)

    Many more

    After having watched the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Speed Channel last night, I would have to say, that has been promoted to the motorsports event I want to see the most. Behind that in a close second is Monaco GP.
