Hi All, I am in the process of getting used to my '99 355 F1. I have several questions and would appreciate any help. 1. Is it safe to presume that the brake fluid is synthetic/silicon? There are no markings on the reservoir and I am presuming that the fluid is original (15000 miles) 2. There appear to be a couple of recalls on my particular car that have not been done. One is "Campaign 20, Pipe". The other is "Campaign 148, OBDII connection". If anyone knows the specifics of what these entail, I would appreciate it. The nearest dealer is being less than helpful. 3. I understand that the tires originally specified for the car are no longer made. On my last car, a Lotus, Lotus came out with a replacement recommendation when this happened. Have Ferrari done the same? Thanks in advance for all and any help. Neil M.
1. The brake fluid spec is listed in your manual (if you don't have a manual, you can download a .pdf version from the Owners.Ferrari.com site). You can replace it with any DOT 4 fluid. DO NOT use "silicone" fluid - DOT 5. You can also use DOT 5.1, which is compatible with DOT 4 (and DOT 3), but just get any DOT 4 and you'll be fine. For more info on this topic, do a search of the archives, you'll get a LOT of useful info (I've posted rated temp tables, etc.) 2. For more info on the recalls, check the NHTSA site. You may be able to find a better description of what needs to be done. 3. Also do a search for 355 tire options. You have a wealth of tire choices today. After all, even in 7 years, tire technology has improved greatly. You can also go up in size in the rear for more performance, with no issues. (again, do a search, I've posted on this several times before, as have lots of other members.) Good luck and enjoy! vty, --Dennis
Since you don't yet have an owner's manual, it's important that you know that F1 equipped cars should *never* be put into reverse to back up inclines (burns up the clutch).
I own a 355 , would be interested by the recall campaign too, what is the site you talk about ?NHTSA ?? nico
