I'd like to replace the headrest on my 308QV seats and have no clue how to remove them: I yanked for all I'm worth, but they're not coming off and I don't see any mechanism to release them.

Is my only option to cut them apart?

There is a clip inside the seat if I remember correctly. You will have to remove the rear panel on the seat back. If it has never been off you will have to drill out the rivets. Just replace them with screws

Ok, I read the other thread as well and took the back cover off. However I still can't see the lever mentioned that would release the headrest.

Here a picture of the seat. Do I need to remove the rubber insulation as well?

Not real certain here as I never was successful in getting my headrests to release back then....but I recall feeling around with my fingers by slipping them between the backrest panel and, IIRC, the headrest bars / stalks were indeed behind the foam. I think that you can slip your hand/fingers behind the foam (?) -- otherwise, you may need a pair of those hog-ring pliers perhaps. Hopefully, someone with first-hand experience with reupholstering 308 seats will chime in here.

Edit -- I think that the headrest posts are notched near the bottoms and they "latch" into place when placed through and past the plastic sleeves a the top of the seat. Would be interesting to know for sure.

    Andreas,
    I re-skined my 308 seats remember?
There are wire clips hidden within the upper part of the seat back foam. Problem is to access them, you will need to either remove the skins or you may be able to reach up under the leather and feel around to find the clips after removing the back cover. Remove the clips with a pair of pliers. Heres a pic where they are located.
Give me a call on Thursday morning if you want to discuss.

    Thanks Dave!
My clips were actually buried inside the foam. Insanity! Had to cut into the foam to get them off, but I managed.

Skinned the headrests, cut the foam away and put the rest into acid to strip it to the bare metal. After some more cutting and bending of the metal rods the rebuild process can begin.

Removal of the headrest has become one of the "How To Do It" topics that drives me crazy. There are usually several ways to accomplish a task and everyone can choose their method. However, some common sense and a bit of thinking should be the first step in the process before ripping half of your seat apart.

Our Ferraris are unique in many ways when it comes to adjustments and maintenance, but moving a headrest up and down is not one of them! Do you really think the seat designers made the seat only to have the customer remove the seat, drill out rivets, blindly cut foam, remove clips and then put everyone back together and re-install the seat. What happens if you raise the headrest, re-install the seat and then decide you don't like the new position? Are you supposed to do it all again?(This is where the thinking and common sense comes in)

The headrest will come out once you push in the clips at the right spot with your fingers. No seat removal, no drilling, no cutting and no silly business is involved.

Great advice, I used that technique to lift my headrests that had been in the lowest position for 20 years.
All i'd say is use silicone spray instead of WD40 as it can stain the leather if you use too much and it also smells terrible.
