I have been told that this is a photo of George Arents, Chinetti's backer for many years, at Lime Rock 1958. The car is supposedly a 290MM? I am sure about the Lime Rock part.

    gentlemen,

    what a wonderfull thread!
i may not recognize all these cars/drivers/locations instantly like most of you, but i do thoroughly enjoy them.

looks like some of you have led a wonderfull, petrol fume -filled life. and i'm very thankfull for sharing those memories with young blokes like me.

if only we could have a dia show night, discussing these great cars and moments over a glass of chianti!
    :)

Number 46 was Roger Penske in a Cooper T61 Monaco Climax, Sports 2500.

The SZ looks like an SZT to me. The photos below are my SZ and an SZT (lifted from ***************.com, thx). The Daytona shot the nose looks lower and smaller side openings like SZT.

That's a 500 TRC Spider Scaglietti, either 0658 MDTR, 0660 MDTR or 0668 MDTR. These three were the only ones that had the air scoop over the oil tank.

I was under the impression that TRs never had the air scoop that is why I identified it as a 290MM. Thanks for your input!

Pretty sure this would be 500TRC s/n 0658MDTR. It was probably with Arnets in 1958, and Arents never owned 0660MDTR or 0668MDTR to the best of my knowledge. Plus Arents was definitely at Lime Rock in 1958 with his Tour de France s/n 0773GT.

I am very happy that so many of you enjoy these photos as much as I do. Sharing anything that is fun or unique is more fun than locking them away as a treasure. I hope that this thread promotes much discussion about the cars and their history.

The photo in post #119 is purported to be Dan Gurney, but if I recall, it is a captioning mistake. I came across the photo awhile back on a Monte Carlo Rally-related site (but I cannot find it now) and after cross-checking it turned out the driver was Jean Guichet. From all the data I can find, Dan Gurney never drove in the Monte Carlo rally.

    Hello David,
Do you happen to have any other pics of this car? I have been wanting to convert a 1/24th scale model into this very car. I know its the green Piper car and it is such a strange conbination of P2 with a P4 style rear end. The front is also a unique body job. It also ran at Daytona in a similar configuration as well as Rhiems.

If anybody can help it would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Ed
