I ordered my 328 Tubi today from Scuderia systems UK. Im pretty calm about it right now but i'm sure i will get quite restless as its arrival time draws near.

My car, Euro spec has no cats so i think my setup will be best described as stock headers and twin "test" pipes into dual entry Tubi.
I really hope this thing sounds good with it on and not like an Alpha, Fiat or other pinched - tailpipe noise box. I want all the throaty growls and the Ferrari howls, :) but is civilised under a constant throttle too much to ask too ?

As i will install it myself, should i be ordering any other software to make it work ie new gaskets ? - and do we use any sealant with the gaskets or not ?My bolts look good but i will use penetrating oil on them a while before stripping to ensure they come off nicely. I will do a photo strip and install and sound-file post when it cometh.

Got my Tubi from Manu at Scuderia(top bloke) and fitted it myself. All that is worth replacing is the exhaust sealing rings. No sealant required.I replaced the bolts with stainless items.

BTW you will not be disapointed with the sound.

The Tubi is great on a 328 - the engine really talks to you!!
Also not at all tiresome on long trips - pretty civilised in fact.

One other benefit is that it doesn't seem to rust... enjoy!

What an insult! For one it´s ALFA, not Alpha. Alfas have a reputation of being some of the best sounding cars ever built. And I wish my Ferrari had the same sonor sound as my Alfa. But then - I still have the stock exhaust ;)

    dammit!!

i pride myself on my spelling and often wonder when i see the poor grammar, syntax and spelling on many international sites. ( typos aside) and look what i go and do myself. Alfa. Alfa's do sound good but i dont want my Ferrari to sound like one.

    :)

TNT express called today to say they would be delivering to my door my 328 tubi this afternoon. Thanks to Manu at Scuderia Systems.

Thursday is a public holiday in SA so i will be fitting it myself and i will report back on the fitment and the "sound" on Friday.

    Skindiver,
Please let us know once installed as I have Koenig on my 328 GTS 1988 and it sounds better than stock. However, I have been advised that tubi would be a better choice so I would be grateful if yourself or anyone can give me more advice on the subject.
What I actually looking for is the idling sound that my stock did not produce but koenig has improved it. Would tubi be better?

Well it arrived. Opened it up and it looks nice. The tips look a bit thicker than the OEM exhausts tips. Very nice and mean, and shiny and all .. but some --TWOX-- must have dumped it on its side durig shipping as one of the inlet pipes have been squashed badly at the donut collar. The whole collar as well as the pipe end inside the donut collar are squashed and dented.
I will be taking down to the local exhaust shop to see if they can make it round again as i really want to fit it tomorrow. Any words of wisdom on this before i do it ? Heat it and hammer it ?

I will try post a pic but im not sure if bottom feeders can post pic's.

Heated and hammered but still not very round. Still a bit triangularish. I am reluctant to labour the thing too much and end up burning a hole or cracking it as inevitable with todays luck.
I'm hoping the donut will squish some ( graphite like copper bits filled white powdery outside round hopefully a bit squishy thing.) to fill the uneven gaps as a result of this mishap. At least the triangular sliding bracket can pass over the collar flare weld now and seat against the flare.

Do these donuts go in dry or are they smeared with some exhaust goo to help sealing ? I'd rather not use goo if i can, unless its standard practice, in which case logically im sure it will help my situation in filling the gaps.

Anyhow it goes in tomorrow and i will kiss and tell.

When i got home i decided to remove the old exhaust so that i could fit the TUBI the next day. Even alone and without a lift, and a lead light that burned my cheek, it went easily enough that i had the TUBI in, in an hour.

My freakin dog ate one of the new donuts while i was under the car so he got clipped across the snout sharply. I was annoyed but i thanked myself at least for not prematurely attempting to prize out the old donuts which were still perfectly intact. I felt at that point that i should use some silicone as the old donuts were hard and dry looking and traces of silicone were in evidence there anyway.
As luck would have it my entire frikkin tube of silicone was hard. Contributing significantly to my mounting aggravation, I found that i needed four bolts as the OEM exhaust has these welded to the inside of the side hanger brackets and the Tubi came with zat.

So i made a temp plan with 4 rubbish bolts to be replaced today and tightened it up with no silicone.

I started it and listened. No leaks. It was quieter at idle than i had expected but i had started the car without the muffler on and even then it was much quieter than i expected too. I warmed it up and trickled it down the road for a few km before exercising the rev range.

Its quieter than i expected although my GF said she heard me coming down the road and it sounded like a racing car, although she knew i was of tenuous temper at best considering the dog gasket thing and would have said anything positive to me at that time..
I think that the sound is probably best heard from the outside and i had glimpses of this as i passed cars and the sound reflected loudly back to me off their sides for that second.

After this one event, I cannot use adjectives like awesome, mind blowing, best money ever spent, howling, wailing, shrieking etc, but it is not bad.
Its not too noisy, absolutely no booming or resonating in the cabin. I expected more as the revs mounted but the noise stayed constant. ( in the cabin at least )
Below the new noises, the car maintains its old character with the mechanical whinings and whirr'ings of before.
It sounds gurgly when you lift the throttle. No flames or backfiring. At cruise though you would not know you had a TUBI. I think this is good.

I dont know if there are levels of TUBI for 328's and i dont know if the moniker -- "for competition only" as on the serial number plate on the muffler, is significant of an intended noise level.

The car really does feel like it pulls stronger.

It looks nice. The tips are really nice with a bigger bore and external diameter. Fits perfectly. The muffler is smaller and shinier obviously than the OEM but felt about the same weight. The inlets on the OEM come in on my euro from either side of the muffler at the hanging brackets and while the TUBI also has two inlets from either side, their pipes run under the muffler, curl up and join in at the bottom, rear, middle of the box.

This looks interesting and you can see it under and through the slatted rear valence. It looks meaner. There is an Fchatter who posted pics of his 308 with his custom dual magnaflow ? exhausts after he found a --BMW-- ? exhaust in there and the effect was of curling shiny pipes under the rear valence . Very nice. Well this TUBI gives a similar effect that i did not expect. You see the inlets slanting down under the muffler and curling up and in, giving a powerful, tuned, branched, looking thing effect.

Ulitimately, and perhaps i was still annoyed about the dent during shipping, eaten gaskets, driving through the same dogs crud and spraying my wheel wells liberally with the pungent expressive, missing bolts and hard silicone, ... for those of you who can afford it, its not a NO. Try it for sure. For those of you who cant, dont let it torture you too much. I suspect 355's and the like benefit most from this exhaust mod though.

As for the supplier, Manu from Scuderia is A --TOP GUY-- A real gent.
Tubi in Italy has too much money and time though.

Incase proponents of other exhaust manufacturers quote me as an "i told you so", i do think i'm getting the best the "engine" can give. To get more i need more engine.

    Regards
    Skindiver.

So what would be your advice to me then as I am thinking of changing to tubi also. Currently I am using Koenig and I was told that tubi is very different as my Koenig gives a good tenor sound while idle which is what I have been looking for. You said that yours is quieter than stock when at low rev.??

Feeling better today and took the car to work. Roads are nice and open with most people already on leave. I stand by what i said about no resonance in the cabin at any RPM. Its patently obvious to me now that the great sounds are external and not so much for the driver. I stay in an open area and getting in to work it becomes more built up and the sound reflects back to me down the built up streets. LOUDLY.

My opinion today is YEA BABY!!

Jaturon i never said it was quieter than stock. It was quieter than i expected. My expectation was based on hearing a 355 idling with a TUBI on and it seemed loud and whiny. I dont know if it's normal for 355's but the idle was set or running quite high exaggerating the whine. Jaturon, stick with the Koenig if it gives tenor --WAAAAA-- sounds.

The TUBI at idle exhibits a --BRRRRRRR-- sound rather than a --WAAAAAAA-- sound Indeed this characteristic is represented throughout the RPM range. While an F1 like --WAAA-- is what i wanted really , and i think most of us do, --BRRR-- will have to do :)

I cant wait to drive home this afternoon. :)

PS !! Never buy a used Ferrari with "TUBI". Its sure to have been tortured to hell and back :) :)

    Buy two :)

I have an 82 Alfa Spider with an aftermarket exhaust. Above 3500 rpm in a tunnel or under an overpass - NOTHING sounds better ( and I love Ferraris more than Enzo did)

It actually sounds better than any car I have ever heard, and i´ve heard them all. One car though that would match my engine sound.....countach with a tubi.
