Tell your friend to try and handle this in a LEGAL way. This idea is stupid.

What are you going to do when the prosecuting attorney or cop produces the video from the police car showing the stop sign in place (with a date stamp and time) and probably showing your friend running it? If you challenge the sign being there be prepared for something like that to show up.

And all the other people that got stopped that day can come in and tell the judge that there was a stop sign there when they got pulled over. If they find out someone did something to get out of the same thing they are taking responsibility for they will line up to help the da

 

Here's a crazy idea. when you see a stop sign, STOP. Don't slow down, don't speed up, come to a complete stop. It's weird, I always employ this methodology and I haven't gotten a ticket yet. Coincidence????

 

So someone else comes along, blows through the intersection because there is no stop sign, and causes a big accident. Yeah, that would be COOL!

 

What's your friend going to do when while in the midst of pulling this stop sign out of the ground another police cruiser just happens past the intersection and arrests him for destruction of government property? Is he going to call you for bail money?

Just have him fight the ticket the legal way. BTW if there was no one except a cop at the intersection then there WAS someone at the intersection. Don't compound a felony on top of a civil infraction.

Tell him to suck it up and pay the ticket. Around here, tampering with traffic control devices is a serious offense

 

If you're thinking about illegal and stupid stuff, why not just call the police station the day before the court appearnace and tell them it's been continued? Probably a better chance of succeeding, however, both of those stupid idea will get your friend hard time if he gets caught.

If he's willing to do a year or two over a moving violation, you might want to avoid him, he's about to do something crazy. You're known by the company you keep.

If you are asking, what if you got a ticket for running a nonexistent sign, I don't think the officer would be wasting his time there. He would be doing something more productive, like shooting radar.

The world does not condone screw-ups, you had better shape up before you find yourself in the county jail. Once you have jail time on your record you can forget about ever finding gainful employment. Right, like I said, I don't think the cop would be wasting his time writing tickets for running a stop sign that isn't really there.

Lets say you get pulled over, the officer says you ran a stop sign. You politely ask him to show it to you. What does he do? Laugh and say, It doesn't exist but I'm writing you a ticket anyway.

If, by some chance, this does happen by all means take some pictures and file a complaint with the department, get an attorney and go talk to the DA.
