ATA wants to put us on a 737 to HI. I didn't think the 73s were rated for that kind of overwater?
Ata= Airline Company 737= Boeing Aircraft HI= Hawaii 73s=737 Body styles come in different variants. Ben, last time I flew ATA I did the at gate upgrade to not having to pay for drinks and bigger seats. $120 each way, round trip total =$540. Won't work on their 73s I dont think though. Good Luck.
long as they are flying with ETOPS certification and John Q minimum-wage fueled the plane to the correct weight of fuel, you should make it no problem. and if you dont, then your relatives could probably sue for a lot of money
And here I thought it meant Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards {Thank you Wikipedia...}
Ben, We were just in Maui and we flew United...they used 737's, I think. Ya know, I'm not a fan of flying either...but you just have to give-in and do it. Every day THOUSANDS of planes take-off and land without a problem. And when 1 plane has a problem, every couple of years, the media beats the drum and we all get post traumatic stress disorder from allowing the vision to inbed in our minds like it's a daily occurance. Just give-in and go with it. Now I'm gonna tell you something....landing in Hawaii isn't fun. In Maui they have to drop-in over some stupid smoking towers, and after 10am they have some gusty winds which tend to make things a bit bumpy. We had down-drafts and turbulence and a pack of mentally challenged people started screaming....it wasn't fun. But ya know what: how often do you hear of a plane "crashing" on account of a botched landing???? In a large jet???? You know the answer. The plane isn't going to run out of fuel, you're gonna be fine and live to post many many more post.
BRUCE, GET OFF THE SAUCE! Wow, thanks guys. I just ask if the 737 had made it to overwater opperation all the way to Hawaii, and I get a page full of "Hahhahah, don't worry, you'll probally live!" Man I WASN'T afraid of flying before.... (No I still love it, check my profile.) Good idea at the gate redhead, thanks for the tip!
Westjet (our canadian airline thats really awsome) flys non stop with 737-800's from Vancouver to Maui and Honolulu www.westjet.com
You should try Continental's Newark>Honolulu direct flight. Nothing like 9 hours and 50 minutes of sitting in an 18" seat with the person in front of you resting on your knees! It is exquisite. There's also a Toronto>Honolulu direct. Done that too. Same problems, but at least everything is announced in French too. I think both of those are Airbus flights though.
I have taken a 737 to HI. It wasn't too bad other than being a little small. I much preferred the 747 I took the time before. Mark
Ben, Geez, I don't even know what I fly in and out of Hawaii these days. I just get on and hit the sauce immediately and hope I end up on land. Uhhh, you'll be fine (like you can really disagree with me if you're not). As someone said earlier, if you're flying into Maui it is a little "rough" at times. Enjoy the flight and know you'll be experiencing paradise in about 5 hours. E.
Don't see too many 707's around anymore...too expensive fuel wise. I was in LA a couple weekends ago and saw Travolta's 707 parked at LAX though. N707JT
707's with the hush kit dont meet noise restictions anymore, we did the hush kit and a c check on travolta's 707, also did the nautalis guys 707's, his hot young wife would come in with bo derek and ground run the planes befor delivery, bo was just so so, the nautalis guys wife was hot
