I started my 78 308 gts last night to warm her up. I have to tell you the smell of agip oil and gas in the garage is incredible. My wife thinks i'm crazy so I was wondering if anybody else felt the same.

That's one thing I don't miss about my Mondial: the smell. For me, though it was mostly the interior, like the seats had been dyed with too much linseed oil or something.

its funny because everybody comments on the sound of the carb cars, which is incredible, but I have not heard anything on the smell. I wanted to see if anybody else agreed.

I agree. Mine (78 carb 308) has the same smell of gas in the garage after being driven.

I only get the smell of gas just after I've filled up. But after a hard drive there always seems to be a smell of oil and who knows what else!

Well, my injected car sure smells great, my clothes smell too after being out there. The inside of the house smells after I let it warm up in the garage and I get crap for it. I love the smell.

Never too old for dirt bikes...my '97 CR250 sits near the old 330 and ya can't beat the smell of Elf 104 octane mixed with Motul AND the sweet smell of the Webers after a long drive...a added bonus is the interior of the 330 smells like the baseball glove I had in grade school!

I would say you CAN get too old for some dirt bikes! I can't see myself riding a bike like the one I have now ('03 CR250R 2-stroke, 55 HP) when I'm middle aged, there would be too much risk of a long hospital stay! But I do love the smell of 2-stroke early in the morning, espeically in cool weather!

First thing I thought of when I saw this thread -- the smell of Castrol R (bean oil) burning in dirt bikes -- used to use that oil in the late 70's & early 80's and the smell is unforgetable. Our Mondial 3.2 doesn't really have a smell except for leather in the interior. My old 911's had a very distinctive smell that is also hard to forget.

What about the "snap, crackle and pop" sounds coming from the car after shutting it down? :)

I also like the little "thump thump" of whatever gets vacuum closed after the engine shuts down...

Problem is, my 930 Turbo now smells like the Ferrari 308... separate garages? :) Is it even LEGAL to store German and Italian together>

Great idea. Call it "Carbs, by Ferrari" and price at $199/oz. The sprayer requires annual servicing according to the manual.

Problem would be marketing "Injected, by Ferrari"...

Each era of Ferrari has a unique smell. I can smell my Daytona as I walk up to it outside. It's a combo of gas, leather, vinyl, and who knows what else. It's an incredible smell, which permeates my garage, too. The 80's and 90's Ferrari's have a different, but unique and wonderful aroma. The 360 I had smelled heavily of leather and that was about it. It was also a nice smell, but I find I prefer the smell of the old cars the best. I probably have cancer forming as a result, but it will be worth it! :)
