Oh boy. Let me introduce you to my friend. His name is SCIENCE. There is PLENTY of science proving cigarettes cause cancer. There is ZERO science connecting amalgAm to any disease or medical condition. NONE. And, it HAS been researched to death by people far smarter than you and me.

No. And, I'm pretty sure I would have heard about it.

Hmmm... interesting concept that defies chemistry and physics... A process that was Effective years ago, but now is not effective. I didn't realize the laws of physics and chemistry had changed.

Interesting that you perceive the presentation of science that refutes your "internet knowledge" as "attacks." As Tommy pointed out... If our positions on these topics were to be self-serving (as is alleged), we'd overtly agree with you and those with the misguided agendas driven by political influences. I'd have my Ferrari already. I'd probably have a FEW Ferraris! Get rid of amalgam and fluoride, and there won't be enough dentists to do all the treatment needed. We'd be busy beyond belief and richer than ever imaginable.

Incidentally, in virtually every state... If a dentist tells a patient that removing amalgams will cure, eliminate, or even prevent ANY medical condition, he or she will likely lose his license to practice. It is considered QUACKERY by dental and medical boards. Furthermore, it is the practice of medicine without a license. A dentist cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions.

Tommy... I say "let them eat cake!" ;) What the hell are we arguing for??? We're rejecting a HUGE source of revenue! ;)

Whoa, take it easy, dry your panties... I never said I knew it all and was even saying that I did not have experience beyond my nascent dental education career. Also, about fluoride and amalgam being the whipping boys... I was implying that lots of activist groups are trying to eradicate their usage and will do so by imbuing negative misinformation about their efficacy and safety.

Thanks for the heads up though big baller...

LOL! I'm not sure if being a "big baller" is good or bad! ;)

I agree with you about the activist groups. Sadly, the bigger the lie, the more people believe it. If you want some good entertainment, go to a town council meeting where they are considering fluoridating the water. Some really interesting characters will show up to protest the idea.

I guess I misread your comments to imply that doing composites well was about as easy as amalgam. And, I thought you meant that the dental profession, at large, was against amalgam and fluoride. So, I'll retract my keyboard-lashing. :)

I will say that I hope you enjoy your career as much as I am enjoying it. It's a wonderful profession with virtually unlimited potential. I'm very active over at www.dentaltown.com and would like to invite you over there. There are a number of dental students there along with thousands of practicing dentists. I wish there was such a thing when I was a student. You can learn tons over there, and you'll find most of the members quite willing to answer any questions.

Best of luck to you in the final stages of dental school.
