I recall seeing a 250 SWB in the back lot of Kensington Motors in Kensington, Maryland in the early-1970s that looked to be used up. It had a roll cage in it, a set of tired Goodyear Bluestreaks, a competition lap belt, no engine or gearbox. It had a badly faded red paint job and some racing tech stickers, maybe for Nassau or Sebring, no license plates. It was surrounded in the fenced yard by shipping crates, junk, etc. It looked to be on the way to the crusher, but the body was not damaged. Anybody have any idea what this car may have been and what happened to it?

My second car is an early 250 GTO that appeared in an article in the Cavallino magazine, perhaps 10 years ago. The photos of the car showed it sitting on a single axle trailer in a grass field in front of a barn across the street from the owner's home somewhere in Illinois south of Chicago. The author of the article knew the owner, the serial number and some of its racing history. The owner seemed to understand the value of the car, but was happy to let it sit out there in the field, year-round. Any clue as to what this car was and where it is now?

    Just curious,
    Ed

Ed, the GTO was 3589 GT but the field was in Ohio, not Illinois. Info/discussion/photos here:

Two SWBs have passed through Kensington, MD according to Barchetta.cc, yet both would have been in the early to mid 1960s, not 1970s.

    2237 GT

    2243 GT

Other than the decade of difference, 2237 GT sounds an awful lot like the car you've described.
