can anyone confirm the following scenario or at least add to it.....you go the local f-dealer to buy a new car....they say they are all sold out (to current customers)...o.k. so how do you become a customer...they say you could START by buying a used F-car....o.k. so you pick up a used one until you have the opportunity to buy a new one....DOES THAT OPPORTUNITY EVER SHOW UP....even if it is 2-3 years down the road?????tanx for all the help

Yes and no....If the dealer stands behine his word it will work. It will also add to your bonus points if they do all your service.

I think it will help a lot and buying a Maser will help too. If you are active at the dealership they will try to keep you around.

Pre-trading in (insert any trade-in here) at Ferrari dealer for a 430 at MSRP (there is several months wait time of course) and "allowing" them to value your trade-in at $25,000 below wholesale book value as been known to get 430s pretty fast ;) Its simply amazing how they are "all sold out for the entire model run" isnt it? *cough cough*

Buy a 612 or 575 at MSRP. Those aren't sold out, and you'll be a great customer right away, I promise. :)

But seriously, I'm assuming you're asking about buying a 430 at MSRP. The basic rule of thumb that I've gathere is that you need to generate anywhere from $20k - $50k in profit for the dealership before you can "earn" the right to buy a 430 at MSRP. This can be accomplished one of several ways -- do lots of service there, take a nice hit on a trade, buy a V12 at sticker, buy 1 or more used cars from inventory at asking price, etc. etc. etc. In the end, it's all about the numbers.

that is what they say...sold out, sold out...then you say well, how about getting in line for the next F introduction and they say, we arent taking deposits yet....i think it is best to buy a used one after the car has had a chance to depreciate...most have hardly any mileage as they are bought as a toy not to be driven daily, and there is a large number of 360's on the market...sooner or later, you will be able to pick them up without having to "kiss up" to a dealer.

Or you could buy a "used" 430 at the dealer for much more than the list price.

1, 575 are history. There may be a few sitting in showrooms, but not in the southwest. The line produced the Superamerica and is now tooling for the 599.

    2. Some dealers have a long standing list of good customers and you almost need someone to die to get on the list for something like a Superamerica or 599. Others have working room for those who have bought and traded-in cars that produce commissions for the sales staff and profits for the dealer

Depends on the dealer. In 1996 I bought a 308 from local dealer. In sept 2002 I put a deposit on what would be a 430 which I took delivery of last august. I don't think the 308 buy put me among their elite customers somehow. I know others have gotten new 8 cyl cars without doing any previous business with them.

    It's easy.......

Buy a used Ferrari from them.

    Blow somebody.

    Give them $10K

    Wait.

    Blow somebody.

And in a few years you'll get one.

The way I see it there are 4 ways into a 430. 1.) Outright kissing up over the years ie showing up at the dealer constantly bearing bottles of champagne or wine, making small talk with the sales manager, asking about the family...ICKKKK yuck. 2.) In some creative shape or form contributing to the dealer, ie trade-ins, having purchased many cars in the past (and traded them back in) 3.) Buying one outright on the open market for market price. 4.) Just getting lucky and the dealer just happened not to have enough customers for the 430 (unlikely but possible). I think the best and simplest way (which avoids all the gross and pathetic kissing up) is if you want the car and have enough cash to comfortably afford it, go find a nice one with no miles, get the best possible deal, buy it and go enjoy your ferrari. This way you dont have to answer to anyone, you dont owe anyone anything and life is simple =)

I think awhile back a guy on here mentioned that he was told if he made a $50k "donation" to the dealerships racing team (360C) he would be put on the list. :(

If you cant get a Ferrari... get in on the Ground Level of Lamborghini, Big changes happening over there.

Theres still time to get a G-Spider with not too much wait. And with all the "Updates" Lamborghini does, by the time the Gallardo Replacement comes out, You'll have it made.

Let's see if I understand this.

Give the dealer your car at a $20k loss so that they can make a profit and you can get on the eternal waiting list. Then buy a new car from the dealer at a retarded mark up after your 125th birthday. Then take that car to the dealer to get ripped off for parts prices and service. Then trade that car back to the dealer, that you paid too much for in the first place, at a big discount under wholesale just to buy another car at a big mark up, after waiting until your 150th birthday. To then again get ripped off for parts and service.

Screw that noise, and screw the dealer, cause that's what the dealer will do to you.

    This is some funny stuff!!!!!!1

By the time you "kiss up" you will have paid more for the dang car then just paying the market value.

We all know that you have to pay to play and this is just a simple fact of F-life. It is similar to the housing prices where I live. A new 8000sqft house on one acre (on a busy street) costs 10-11MM. Starter homes that are 40 years old minimal updates (2br/1bath/1000sqft on 1/5th acre) are 1.2-1.3MM. A new 4000sqft home on 1/3acre is 3.5-4.5MM. If you want to live on the SF peninsula or drive a new 430 (without prior F-car ownership), you just have to accept the reality and pay to play. If you're smart you can even make money doing it.

I paid over MSRP at a local dealership for my 2006 coupe (first F-car) and should be able to sell it for similar dollars in one year when my spider comes in at MSRP (agreed upon at time of coupe purchase). Asking prices for 2006 coupes right now are more than I paid and I don't see any softening.

When I get my spider at MSRP, I will be able to drive it for at least a few years and still be ahead financially -- or I could sell it and make my money back right away (not my plan). Basically, I paid my "dues" with the coupe and am making my money back on the spider.

I have no regrets and love my car -- I feel lucky that I had the chance to get a blk/blk 2006 F1 coupe since it may be a while since another becomes available this year (in No Cal).

The short answer is that u cant get an F430 for MSRP, however from reading this thread, the most logical options seem to be buy something else you like from them; which I assume there arent any of....or go, buy a private sale F430, service it through your dealer, and they SHOULD put u on the list for whatever u want be it an F430 with different options, a newer model, whatever. They will do this to get YOUR F430....

Take any valuable vehicle to a Ferrari dealer and tell them you'll trade them for an F430 spot..

It wasnt hard/impossible to get on VERY early lists for probably the Two hottest cars coming out this year.. The 2007 911 Turbo, and the Gallardo Spider.

If you had the foresight to get on either of those lists a few years ago, you could easily be looking at the #1 spot.. With any luck, you'll get a very early vehicle, the market will be large, and you can either sell the car and make some cash.. or do the Ferrari dealer a favor and offer to trade it to them.

Ferrari Dealers have plenty of clients that buy other vehicles.. Being able to offer a client a brand new 2007 911 Turbo might be valuable to some Ferrari Dealers.

I had decided to buy a ferrari, but after researching all of the bullsh** in terms of dealer ass-kissing, I will likely buy a Gallardo instead.

I bet we could put together a two-scneario Excel Spreadsheet that compares the multi-car "Dealer-Route" to the single car "Open-Market Route". If you are not buying a new Ferrari every other years, I suggest finding the car you want, paying over MSRP and move on. I am playing the Dealer game, but expect to loose. It's like playing the CASINOs in Vegas, the odds are in their favor, that's why they are in business. You are NOT getting ahead by kissing-up and paying-up at the Dealership !!!!!!!!!

So, what did your dealer tell you about the process? How long did they tell you that a new and previously unknown customer would have to wait?
