Thanks Darren. Guy Allen of Petrol Gallery did this for me - he does a lot of work for magazines etc. People may have seen his "Cut and Shut" drawings etc.

    Two comments:

The drawing was made during the car's vacation ;)

The last photo - the head-on view actually has a strong resemblence to a 250 swb for me (mind you, I prefer the looks of the PF Coupe).

It looks like there are two sets of lights behind the doors. What's the deal with that Roger?

    Glassman,

I think the extra lights on piller behind the door are crossed flag medalions.

I gobbled up as much of the technical stuff on Tom Yang's site and added it to my favorites list so I can go back to it. Both this and that site are great, very helpful, but I get a bit put off with the philosophical bickering (GTE RIP thread), seems like the wrong place for that here. My wife has chewed me out for leaving drool marks on the keyboard while viewing John V's beautiful cars, my gosh they are exquisite. Thanks Art, despite what others may say, you are a fine gentleman.

I know the complete history of our PF coupe, and it might be of interest to some folks, and can post some more pictures of it whenever Noah moves his ark out of my driveway, so I can back the car out of the garage to photograph it. I presume he is anchored out there to rescue my sheep! Gees, 39 days of constant rain out of the past 42. In our 30-year ownership of this old girl, she has been rained on just once, on the way home from a FCA event. As for the Boano, I do not know its history and have only a few hardcopy pictures of it from the time when we rescued it. It was baby-puke yellow when we bought at auction in Portland and in very ratty condition, but had a tight motor that did not smoke and ran very strong. I believe Marcel Massini knows where it is now. Maybe, some time this spring I can send some history and photos to Tom Yang's gallery on both of them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here is an ad of Baroclem Batteries, dating from October 1959, showing 1093 GT. The ad appeared in the French magazine "L'Automobile". First owner of 1093 GT was Mr. Barrault in France, owner of the Société Baroclem in Courbevoie and Paris, France. Today the car is in Norway.

    Two quick questions:

    Marcel,

In the baroclem picture, is 1093's roof painted black or is its a reflection of some sort? If it's black, that is an unusual transition point for the color switch.

1341 looks like a great project that appears to still have a motor. What became of the car, did Tom Break it up or is it still intact?

    Regards,

    Art S.

I noticed that when I stood behind the taillights of the Boano and looked down the fender line towards the front of the car that the shape, contour and angle of the lines of the body work behind the rear window where it met with the two fenders were different. That is, the shape of the car on the left side differed from that on the right. And the difference from side to side was visually noticeable. Why is that?

I cannot see such an obvious difference when sighting forward alone the fender lines of my PF coupe. To my old eyes, they look to be mirrow images of each other.

So, here we have two coach builders and a span of 4 years (i.e., two variables in this experiment). Does the improvement in the balance of the shape of the PF coupe over that of the Boano reflect an advance in the technology of the time or an improvement between coach builders or, perhaps, both? Was the body work of these two cars stamped out in a machine, then detailed with hand tools ? I realize I am asking a purely academic question, but any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Chatters
My name is Ray Castelhano. I have been in love with Italian cars and Ferrari in particular since I was 15 years old and Ferrari (the company) was 3. PF Coupe 1415GT was in my care for a while during the 80s and 90s. Restoring the car was a fantastic experience and selling it was the downright dumbest thing I ever did or will do. During the restoration I met a lot of great people and had the satisfaction of seeing the car return to it’s original glory before my eyes. My son David (Bertocchi) restored the drive train and was of enormous amount of help. Willow Grove Auto Tops in PA put the interior together (I installed it myself) and the final body work and paint were done by Holbert’s Porsche Audi also in PA. I did just about everything else with Dave’s help and input.

Things were different to a large degree back then in the pre-internet era. Things that Dave and I searched and searched for are now for sale once a month on ebay. The car was, from the start, meant to be a driver and once done, it was driven. I traveled all over Virginia, to Hershey, to Baltimore to Summit Point WV and so on. It is an absolute joy to drive a 12 cylinder Ferrari and doing so becomes an addiction very rapidly. That doesn’t mean the car was not entered in shows it was and it won a bunch of best in class awards. I had put about 3000 miles on it between the restoration and showing it at Cavallino. It still did fine and being involved in the event was above all the AACA events. I met Brenda Verna who is a wonderful woman and a great helper and researcher. Also met Sicard, Iori, Steve Tillack the brilliant Chris Leydon and many many others. I also met the late Bill Lester of California who was the greatest most helpful true gentleman in the country. Poor bill passed away shortly after finishing the restoration of PF Coupe 1151. That car is now for sale at Heritage Classics in CA for about twice what Bill’s widow sold it for after his leaving us. At the time he owned the PF Coupe, a 275 GTB, a 400 stick shift and a 308. Bill did not paint the brake drums on his PF red. The car also does not have PF Coupe seats in it now but it is a good car unless it has been really mistreated since Mrs. Lester sold it.

The mirrors on 1415 were not factory installed. They were needed on the Washington Beltway so I put them on. They worked well. As far as I know all PF Coupe dashboards were done in leather by PF. It is my understanding that the designation of “pelle e plastico” meant that the headliner was done in naugahyde. Some were done in leather. I came to that conclusion through correspondence with pininfarina factory when trying to determine what the headliner material was. I found that parts for the brakes were very scarce. I am not a fan of my neighbor White Post Restorations but they were able to find a lot of what was needed. The drum brakes work very well for a guy who learned to drive in drum brake cars they are fantastic. Lots of different size copper sealing rings are needed to assemble them. I had two sizes made and found that copper sheets in metric thicknesses are not common around here. It is not hard at all to change the “inside” plugs. As you must have discussed, the plugs were moved to allow the breathing improvements seen in the early 1960s. The rear springs MUST have the polyethylene spring liners in them or the car will not handle worth a damn. I had that stuff made also and Partsource now owns the tooling. That is about it. If you want to see pictures of any part of the car let me know.

Hi Raymond. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. I really liked the dark blue and tan leather combination on your car. I believe it is in Germany now, isn’t it?

The process of restoring your car must have been very similar to mine (1381GT). My car too was a father and son restoration project, during a period when there was no internet and restoration supplies for these cars were ever scarcer. I have a quite thick picture album and hand sketches documenting the process of teardown and restoration.

We would love to see the pictures you offered.

    Take car.

Glassman, yes there are 2 small side lights there as well as the PF flags. I've seen this on a couple of early cars. In fact the car in the Hartmut Lehbrink/Rainer Schlegelmilch book (pages 123-127) has the same lights but no crossed flags! Anyone know the chassis number of that car - 1958 (so probably drum brake inside plug) RHD Black car wearing UK reg 5HPD?

There are so many minor differences from car to car - guess it just shows up the coachbuilt nature of these cars.

Mine also has the bonnet scoop (not too common on S1 cars) and Lucas electrics (very uncommon!).

    Regards,

    Roger

    Roger,
The variations are very interesting. My car has no side marker lights either at the front or at the pillar, and did not have them at least from 1961 on after a repaint.
By the way, if I can get a drive in next weekend, the Distributors will come off and be on their way. Are you still in?

Hi Raymond. Thanks for the pictures. 1415GT is beautiful color combination.

I have one of those Virgina registration plates hanging in my garage. It came with an Aston Martin DB2 I bought from a fellow that lives in your neck of the woods, Paul Wilson. You may know him.
