Yeah... I've been having that for a couple of months.... is it depression I don't know... I don't think so....

    I don't like my work...

I've been waking up, going to work, come home, goto the gym, rinse and repeat...

That's it... thats all stuff consists of for me.... its crappy because i'm 26 yrs old... but living like I'm a 60yr old...

Sure i'm in great physical shape from hitting the gym and stuff.... but its depressing...

Its hard to get a resonable social circle going because seems like everyone is either out of my age group, transients, or I don't speak the language...

Anyhow sorry for ranting... was feeling crappy and just needed to get this off my chest :(

    Set goals. Make them happen.

I've been in your shoes before, and in hindsight, my goals weren't that large, but could have been obtained. Do it, do it now.

You say your in engineering. Do you like design? There is nothing more fulfilling in my mind than designing something and see it come to fruition. Perhaps profit from your creation.

Weather it be a Vase, a piece of fashion, An engineered shoe, whatever.

Honestly, I did electrical engineering because i was very good in the maths and sciences... my passion lies in the financial world hence the desire to leave the company I work for (monsterous defence contractor) and move to financial analysis (something I am passionate about and decent in)

Great move in my opinion. War is pointless.

I am amidst somewhat of a career change myself and what I can tell you is that things get much easier (psychologically) when you take the plunge and do them.

    Start planning your exodus NOW!

Doesn't sound like depression, just unhappiness. Change jobs if you need, maybe something like an MBA would be an ideal transition with an income boost. Hard science people are the most desired by grad programs nowadays. Have you ever taken a practice GMAT? If you go to a top MBA program, the finance jobs will come to you.

It may not be the answer you're looking for, but real happiness is in family. Perhaps you're feeling bereft because you need a deeper personal connection.

You're in a rut. Good thing is, you want out. You'll get there, don't worry.

most of them are seeming to tell me.... we'd like to see 3yrs of work exp or so.... me just finishing grad school in may and working here doesn't cut the cake :( hence trying to see if i can pull a career change as maybe a "new grad" since it hasn't been a year

family? oh you wouldn't believe how much i miss not havin em around.... but it sort of coincides my move to the financial sector too since my entire family is based out of the NY/NJ area

I didn't notice you had recently graduated - yeah, that's a tough spot. You'd probably have to apply next year at the earliest - to have two years by the time you start, and even then that's barely cutting it.

As for the family bit, I meant not only your family/extended family, but a family of *your own* (like you and a wife... then kids after a while). You're going to hear a fair bit against that around here, but maybe that's what you're looking for deep down.

Might be best to get out of engineering. My wife has a EE degree, she worked for a great company for two years but hated what she was doing and who she worked with. So she quit three years ago and has been happy ever since!
