I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more coverage yet, perhaps it will by tomorrow. But the jist of the article is that they believe they found a new compound that will finally kill the AIDS virus. The rest of the article can be found here: http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_3482712

    Time will tell.

On a side note, imagine what will happen to the world population, especially in places like Africa, when the threat of HIV / AIDS no longer exists?

Well I think the drug will be so expensive that people there would not get it. Kind of like what malaria is now.

I was wonderin that too, I've seen it in a couple articles, but only local to Utah, nothing picked up by Reuters or AP yet.

Also, I agree, I can't see this getting to Africa for quite some time.

I'm thinking of the violence or ways to keep those from killing or taking the drugs if they are in stock and expensive first.

Pretty much, with millions of HIV/AIDS people the cost to give them all is would be huge!

It's probably not all over the news, because stories like this always show up. Oh we have this medicine, which we have barely tested, but the results are promising, it could be a breakthough. It's been going on since people started looking for a cure. It's a way to drum up investment money and publicity. If this one happens to be the cure, awesome, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There have been some people in the past who claimed to have found a way to make a cure/vaccine. Some guy said he had a vaccine and would test it on himself, but I dont' know if anyone followed up on him.

Think of it like that lady who said she cloned a person and the baby was alive. The news was all over it, but when she couldn't prove it because the "parents want to keep private," cameras left. These drug companies can claim to cure AIDS, but until they have proof...

Hope it's true ... but that's probably just until another disease comes up ...

    Wow!

Not just AIDS but baterial and other viral infections...

    Great news.

A bacterial meningitis killed my little brother when we were young, maybe others won't have to perish that way when they have a whole life to live.
