308 Clutch Pedal all the way up

    My clutch has no slipage and has always been high(Just never adjusted it), but now something is wrong. It is all the way up by the stearing shaft. Any ideas, I seeing nothing loose or no spring or anyting on the floor. Should I be looking under the car???

    I have to stick my toe in between the stearing shaft and the pedal, push it down so I can get my foot on it, then everything is find.

    Any Advise??

    Which clutch system do you have?

    The original/old style system that came on the carb'd 308s?
    or
    The system that superceded it?
    Which I suspect you have:
    If so, then you've got a broken or disconnected pedal pull-down spring.

    On the newer system, the spring attached to the pedal pulls the pedal down, keeping the throwout bearing riding lightly on the pressure plate. W/o the spring, the pedal will rise up as you describe.

    Reason for adj. periodicly is that as the pressure plate wears, the pedal rises & stretches the spring. The increased spring length acts thru the cable & linkage to the pressure plate, reducing it's pressure on the clutch, thus making clutch slippage more likely.
