I always confine in you guys and need some serious help... A good friend of mine has a daughter (14) who has recently been cutting herself. She seems to do it out of the blue and I was wondering if anyone her may know as to why and what to do to help. Any advice I can give him or her to help the situation? She needs to see a professional quick - a good pyschologist. Maybe she has some low esteem related issues.
MY KIDS HS SENT OUT LETTERS REGARDING THIS CUTTING CRAP AND CHOKING GAMES 3 WEEKS AGO MY ADVISE, SHES LOOKING FOR ATTENTION, TELL THE PARENT TO PUT A BOOT UP HER ARSE, IM SERIOUS...HIGH SCHOOL GAMES AND PRESSURE.. BRUCE
I would say she needs counseling, but, odds are, she won't talk... Cutters cut to make mental and emotional pain go away... The odds that she's cutting because of stress at school despite a supportive home life are slim to none... Is your friend being the father he should be...? Is there a mother in the picture...? How about her...? How involved are her parents in her life...? How did he find out she's cutting...?
Thank you guys. I sent him the link to the site that was recommended. The family is very supportive of her but the mom and dad are separated. They do many family events together including vacationing. Im not sure about her social life at school. Its hard to understand the situation without being in her head. I also don't want to ask too many questions. Antony
What a shame....... I hate to hear about situations like this. I wish I could add something to this thread for you Antony, but this is something I know very little about. I hope she gets over this behavior.
Cutting and suicide don't go hand in hand... And cutters almost always cut in private, making sure no one ever sees them or the results afterwards...
People do it for lots of reasons, some much more serious than others. If she wanted to kill herslef she could easly cut deap along the wrists or neck and you wouldnt know till its too late. Since they know she could either want to release pain or just wants attention. I my case my dumbass sister did and still sometimes does it, she says shes trying to kill herself, but where she cuts and how shallow makes it clear she just wants attention, last week she cut my intials into her leg trying to get some attention from me, I just ignore her and she stops. But you never know, she might really need some help or a good azz kicking, have them get her some help and see from there.
Go get a razor and carve your initials into your own skin, and come back when you're done... Seriously... Done...? Okay, now whether or not someone's doing that for attention or because they're trying to make some other kind of pain go away, don't they need help either way...? She's your sister; get her some help.

Yes, I've heard of this before; she needs medical/psychiatric attention quickly, as pretty much everyone else states. It's so sad and I wish her and the family all the very best.
