    Hello...

Does anyone know if........porsche rear 914-6 calipers are fully interchangeable with 308 gt4 brakes ? If so...how about the 1980 porsche 911sc calipers for the front?

    I know the pads are.....

They were both Ate. My answer to your question is "I believe so" but I'd take a caliper along to your friendly Porsche dealer.

BTW, if you want another set, I may have an old set of fronts in my basement somewhere. Will need to be cleaned up and rebuilt with new seals and dust boots.

308 rears are the same as 914-6 rears. I "believe" 308 fronts are the same as 911 fronts from the same era. Pads definitely cross over.

    Good luck,
    John
P.S. Phil how's it going? Long time no hear from.

Calipers: If anyone wants them (and I can find them) they can have the fronts for a nominal fee plus shipping. PM me.

    Hey John:
Head down at work. Planning to go vintage racing in an Elan -- see pics, but have several negotiations to go through first.

See if you can find out the thicknesses of the Porsche brake rotors vs the F rotors for those models -- I have a vague recollection of someone posting that the F rotors are thicker (so although very similar, the piece inbetween the two caliper halves is thicker, and the bolts holding the sandwich together are longer on the F version of these caliper).

Steve, you have a mind like a steel trap. I do remember hearing that discussed before.

Incidentally, the 911 calipers up to 1983 are for a 20mm disc. The 1984 - 1989 calipers are for a 24mm disc - same Ate calipers just a wider spacer between the two halves. One of these may be the right width for you.

asked the same question got the same answers. with the wider disc how do you change the spacer? is it just a washer or like a bushing? do you need longer bolts? unraveling this will be great since porsche parts are easily available and cheap.

If I remember correctly the only difference is the configuration of the handbrake assembly (I had an old 2 litre 914 in addition to my 308 for a bit) so in short you can't just slap a 914 caliper on. the issue of interchange was in the rebuild kits as the piston size is the same...you can also use the pad hardware kits.

The space is exactly that (not a washer or a bushing). Specifically, it is dimensionally the same as the caliper halves in profile, only a set width depending whether for a 20 or 24mm rotor. Yes, you'll need different length bolts if changing from 20 to 24 or 24 to 20. Once apart you'll see how these seal against fluid leakage - it's not complicated.

Easiest thing to do is figure out what ferrari rotor width you have then go buy some 911 Ate calipers for the same (or very nearly the same) width - either new from a porsche supplier, or used on ebay for example (then rebuild with rebuild kits). Incidentally, the CV axles are the same as for a 911 of similar vintage.

You might want to try and contact "marankie". That's his name on this forum. He owns both a 914/6 and a GT4.
