Well, we've been stuck in primer for a couple of weeks, but, I've been promised that color goes on this week!! Dash will come out too, and go off to the upholsterer. I've decided to use the mousehair that I got. It had a Ferrari inventory tag on it, from the early 80's, so I think that's as good as it's gonna get. It's black, but it is the thinner material, and will look good. Did some work on the door gaps prior to priming to make the lines cleaner. Caught hell from a judge about making the car nicer than how it came out of the factory. I'm hoping he was just kidding...... Gary, if you're out there, tell me you were kidding. I found a nice Becker Radio and that'll go in while the dash is out. Had it retro-fitted with RCA jacks so that it can plug into the existing amp in the car. I should have much more to report and show in about a week. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
amazing to see and find out what lurks beneath...I can only wonder how many "fiat" Dinos were lost not all that many years ago 'cause at teh time they were "beyond economical repair" glad to see this one getting the tlc and fine craftmanship the design deserves but the oem factory never used. better than new on this dino for sure.
IT'S RED!!! NOW we're getting somewhere.. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope. gonna flat bed it to my garage, put a car cover on it, uncover it maybe twice a year, then cover it back up. OF COURSE I'M GONNA DRIVE IT!! YOU CAN DRIVE IT TOO!!! DM
Okay. Just checking. I started to get nervous with this restoration. It was looking like you were going to make it "too" nice enjoy. Glad to hear otherwise.
Dear Mr. Staino. Ferrari are meant to be driven. Not parked and admired. Well, actually, that too, but their primary purpose is to go down the road, just a little faster than you should. You didn't REALLY need to ask, did you? Dave
Clear going on! Here are the pix. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now i am getting really envious/frustrated She is looking the nuts Bet your itching to get the old girl home now Dave?
YEP. It is now in the "I'm going to bug the crap out of the body shop to get it done" phase of the project. Delphais has done a great job so far. I'm not going to upset the apple cart at this stage. 2-3 weeks and she'll be back together, on her way to Algar to get the motor tucked back in, and back on the road by the original taget date of April 1. I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed. Dave
I got a chance today to spend some time with Mike at Delphais Collision, and my car. We've decided to leave the dash alone, not going to recover it. I'm going to stash the material away, if I change my mind sometime in the future, I'll dig it out and use it. Here are a couple of pictures showing the work that goes in to getting rid of the orange peel, and really making the paint perfect. Dave, Your Dino's restoration journey is great fun to watch. Thanks for all the wonderful pics & comments along the way. Cheers, Hank
Dino's happen to be my favorite Fcar. I enjoy viewing these remarkable updates. This should have been a Speed Channel show in place of that ridiculous build or bust crap. That would have been interesting IMO.
What Red is that? Fine deep color. Fresh Blood? Had an Alfa Gulia SS that I re-painted to look like that. Loved it. I traded it in for a white Dino and my kids thought I was nuts. I went from factory white to Midnight Blue metalic after a lot of soul searching. If I repaint again, that color is in the running. Keep up with the pics. We all enjoy. Thanks, John
