Good thing you ignored him as a 2005 Mustang GT would easily outrun a 348 in a straight line. I have owned a 1994 348 and my wife currently owns a 2005 Mustang GT conv. and the Mustang is very fast up to 120mph or so. The Blue Oval company is making some great cars right now.

I think it would outrun the 348 in a straight line, but not 'easily'. The specs for the Ferrari are 0-60 in 5.3 or 5.5 depending on who you believe. The 2005 Mustang GT is timed at 5.2. So depending on the driver's skill I think .1 - .3 seconds can be won/lost although I think we all agree that Ferraris are not drag racing cars. A rolling start would effectively eliminate the grunt advantage of the Mustangs hi-torque motor. Still pretty good for a 16 year old car vs. the new car from Detroit.

I get the family guys in the Hemi Magnum wagons downgearing and blowing past my 308 on the freeway. What up with that?
Maybe its "Magnum P. I .T .A." I'm sure those cars can smoke a 308 up to about 105mph, or the first sweeper, but then. I just laugh and wave and listen to the sweet exhaust note of My fine piece of Italian artwork.

I was going to say the same thing. When you're already doing 40, I think the new Mustang's advantage is just about gone.

Anyway, this happened a while ago to me. Suprised the thread came back to life.

It's happened probably a dozen times since. I don't care anymore. People are fools.

On the other hand I've had more Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, Evos, you name it, cars come up and praise my car. So not all of them are jerks, in fact, I'd say most aren't.

With the gated shifter of the 348 it would be very difficult if not impossible to get a 5.5 0-60 time IMHO. From what I've seen at the local drag strip bracket racing, a stock Mustang GT will do a flat 5.0 0-60 with a good driver.

The Mustang may take the Ferrari off the line, but from a rolling move I think the Ferrari will take it.

    1. Also remember as cost decreases, the dirt bag factor increases! When your talking about a car virtually any high school kid with job can swing, you get all kinds of low lifes.

    2. You will rarely see people like thodr at a real road course event. They can't afford the entry fee, nor do they really want to test their driving skills.........

I hate those rude people, coming to you and asking "how much fuel does it consum" "how much does it cost", without saying "hello" or "excuse me but..." and showing an angry face.
It always ends up with frustration/more anger on both sides !

I have a different answer to Matt's original question about responding to a kid asking how it feels to be in a Ferrari that got beaten by a Mustang. why not just smile and say: 'I'm glad I made your day'

You know what you have, if you respond to his snide remark with something witty, you will look like just as big an insecure tool as he is. If you are polite, he won't know what to make of it.

    Regards,

    Art S.

On my 308 (supercharged), to do a I 0-60 I put it in 2nd and go 0-60...there is no shifting required but care with the throttle is not to over cook the tires. It's as fast as most anything on the street that's running street tires 0-60 or 0-100.

Ferrari's doen't have any issue leaving the line other than their owners driving ability that is.

M3's and E55 AMG's for me...both cars significantly faster than a Mondial t. And yet, they were the ones that had something to prove.

I would say, 'meet me on the Angeles Crest Hwy', but that's a public road with fairly regular traffic...just not worth it.

I think Vette people are pretty cool. I've not run across any Vette drivers mashing the throttle period, much less when I'm driving my F car. I think most of them are pretty happy with the car they have and don't need to prove anything.

I know a guy who would probably race most Ferrari owners with his mustang for a giggle cuz his mustang is 1300hp and was the fastest at the ford shootout a year ago. He also owns a silver 360 Spyder which is the most beautiful car Ive ever seen.

And that is why most ferrari owners would try to get him on a road race course where is 1300hp wouldn't help him much, but the rubber chassis and drag shock/springs/tires will do a lot of harm :)

The owners I encounter are probably more influenced by the Florida attitude than the car they are driving. I guess in California people are more relaxed. The Vette and Mustang guys I have met at the track have all been pretty cool people. It is the angry southerners that I encounter on regular commuting that seem to be the most aggressive.

Well There is always a car faster. My brothers camero runs in the 9's at the drag strip.

(this was 7 years ago) I was in my 348 once and this older bmw m3 guy comes along the side of me and floored it in this curve, I played his game and stayed ahead until we came upon some railroad tracks. He jumped over those tracks and didnt slow down. At the next light he rolls down his window and says "I just had me a late lunch" I was like OK whatever, I am not going to bottom out my ferrari to keep up with this kid. It was just stupid. And showa hia total lack of respect for what his parents gave him.

Since getting the viper though, I have had many try, but none succesful. But I sure miss my 348.

There is nothing wrong with building a nice purpose built car and I don't think anyone is saying there is. Cars with solid rear axles are easier to turn good times with at the drag strip, IRS is just unnecessary weight for that game.

On a road race course things change a bit. A solid axle car can still be made to work well, but it will lose to an IRS car in an equal state of tune every time…with equal state of tune being the key factor. Can a race prep’d 750hp mustang beat most stock Ferraris? I’m sure it can if it was well prepared. But if the question is can it beat a 750hp race prep’d Ferrari, I’m equally sure the answer is no. It just doesn’t have the chassis…unless you’re talking about a one-off race car that happens to have a mustang body on it, then we’re back to equally state of tune.

Stock, any modern Ferrari is more than a match for a stock mustang. Once you start talking about modified cars, well that’s why they have rules and classes at the race track. If you’re talking about the street, then I guess it’s a mute point because only idiots race on the street.

When you say "beat" do you mean in an actual race at an actual track?.... or do you mean pass some one on the street who didn't even know they were in a "race"?

You know what I mean from a dig (stop) or a roll. Just because im young dosent mean I dont know what real racing is. Most Ferrari owners you dont find at the drag track either...
