New to the chat room. I have just purchased a real 1979 308 gtb after 30 years of lusting after one. I'm 48. In those 30 years I did whatever I could do to be involved with Ferrari. Have thousands of magazines and thousands of diecast etc. For the last two years my son (12 now) and I worked on hand-building this track.Somewhat modeled after LeMans, Targa Florio etc. Track is more than 90'. Pits take-up 1 4x8 plywood. Built in four seperate 4x8 with casters. Most everything built with styrafoam and balsa. more than 100 individual lights including each pit garage.

I've been collecting slots for years, looking at home tracks in the magazines, and yours is one of the very best, if not the best! Don't ever dismantle it, sell it to me!!

Beautiful job. Reminds me of the old MESAC club track in Southern California 30-40 years ago, but smaller...

Nice track! I suppose you would use remote controls to race the cars around the track? or maybe i am thinking of another kind of model car racing..hmm

Amazing layout - looks like its using Scalextric track & buildings - where are you based ? The pits close up is fantastic - and don't forget to find the time to enjoy the real one too !

Welcome to FChat! Fantastic track, most beautiful I've ever seen.

Any chance you can convert it to digital? Imagine 8 cars racing on it at the same time.

Nice track! I race at a commercial track in Houston.

    http://www.hsarc.net/

Attached is a pic of my active Ferrari race line up. The Enzo is the only one we do not have a class for.

    Left to right

    Scalextric Sport 2005 Schumi F1 - stock
Ninco F50 converted to Slot-IT HRS inline with V12 29.9k B motor - magnetic suspension, no magnets (we call this GTS class)
Ferrari 512 S Coda Lunga - originally fly, now Slot it HRS side winder, V12 29.9k motor, racing magnets, silicone tires and poly rims - Group C class
Ferrari 512S Coda Lunga - Fly - bone stock - LE Mans Class
    Carrera Enzo - bone stock

I just sold my 1:1 308...now the upgrade to a 348 is in progress.

Thanks all for the great feed back. Glad you like it. It was a real labor of love, and a great way to spend time with my son. Now all he wants to do is ride in our 308. Imagine that!
Tifosi12- I think it would be pretty easy to convert to digital. I have thought about it. The hobby is getting really good for Ferrari fanatics. Lots of great cars. How about the Scalextric p4's? They are very well done. I would like to get a good 308-(not 288). Has anybody ever seen one available.
Greyboxer- I live in Cecil Co Md.

Watch the bushings on that Yellow 512 S Coda Lunga...I ate up my drive gear in a lovely cloud of gray particles. I bought it used off of Ebay mainly for the body. It ran like a scared dog in our race last night. Too bad the power on the track went "poof" at about 11:30PM. We red flagged the race...dangit.

Here is another shot with the bodies off on my two Ferraris now riding on Slot-It HRS chassis. The F50 has the magnetic suspension (look like two shocks at the back). This helps massively on home tracks but is especially nice on the track I run at as it helps the high speed cornering. The 512 has no mag suspension as it runs in a class where we can use magnetic traction (the siliver thing in front of the motor is the traction magnet). Using a mag suspension in it would cause it to bottom out on our hill.

For hard racing I use my self made 333SP and the 250GTO. Both I found cheap on ebay and put the body onto modern Scalextric chassis (LeMans and GT40). They don't look as pretty, but go like bats out of hell and if they fly off the table, no harm done.

I couldn't bring myself to race the lovely Fly or Carrera models really hard. LSU308: I think you lost both mirrors on the 512S.

Do any of you have the Ferraris by Racer? Not sure how they run, but they look incredible. Actually, not sure I would take a chance on running them.

That is a really awesome track, and like another member said, I absolutely love the pit layout. I have recently looked into the 1/32 scale slots and there are some absolutely amazing Ferraris that are made by Racer out of Italy or Spain.

The slot car craze is becoming popular again for sure. I live in Nevada and there is an independant dealer in Las Vegas at the Caesar's Casino that has a slot track and they rent time to people. It gets fairly busy on the weekends.

Have a lot of fun with that. I will start to build my track in the next few months and I would be happy if mine turned out half as nice as yours :)!

I made the mistake of going to the local hobby store today at lunch. Right by the checkout counter was a new Scalextric 330 P4. I couldn't resist, it came home with me. I guess now I have to set up my track.

Good for you! I'm still looking for that one.

BTW: On Saturday we're having our own first slot car race on a pro track. Looking forward to it and see what my 1/24 creations can do.

Isn't she wicked? GTO slot body from the sixties (a real antique I chopped up!) on a brand new performance body from the US. :) :) :)

I have not gotten one yet but have seen one on our local track. Man is it a fast little bastage! Low low center of gravity and light body. Gorgeous car and Scaley prices are very reasonable. Just like the real ones...don't garage queen that baby..."drive" it!! Or buy another and drive that one.

Have a look at the Fly Ferrari 512S Sunoco Coda Lunga...I have two...one for the track, one for the shelf. They are on eBay a lot.

Digital slot track lets you run up to 8 cars/players at the same time on a regular two lane track. So I decided to make the jump to digital. The bad news is, that will make all the current analog cars obsolete.

However Scalextric and now Ninco are offering retrofit kits to make your analog car (of any brand!) compatible on their particular digital tracks. The Ninco kit is the easier to install so that made my decision for which digital system to choose a lot easier.
