When Max first got to be the chief of the FIA I thought it would be good for F-1, but the true nature of the Bernie Max show started about 97 - 98... and its been down hill ever since then....this is really the only proposition that he has made that actually makes some sense.... I just want qualifying to go back to the way it was for about 30 years! then when you went to a race you actually felt like you saw the cars!

Diesel, rotary, what ever: I would think it would be better than what we have today!

You're on very thin ice with that statement. Ilmor was a 2 engineer company where one guy (the mor part) has died. If anything I'd look at Illien as a contractor to Mercedes, but the parts are all built by Merc. Similar to AMG vs Merc.

Isn't that like saying the DFV was a Ford?
I believe AMG is owned by Mercedes.

But I am happy to get wet if wrong, Andreas!

Hehe. We'd both get some egg in our face, cause it ain't that black and white:

Yes originally the engine was an Ilmor being designed, engineered and manufactured by Ilmor. I happen to know a bit about this, because Ilien is Swiss and the Swiss newspaper were full of it.

As time moved on and his partner died the whole design/production process got more and more integrated with Mercedes. That's why I'm saying the truth is probably somewhere in the middle: It is no longer a contracted out motor from Ilmor nor is it completely a Merc in house development. Also you can't compare it to the DFV because that was one original engine design that lasted for years. With the rapid rate of rules changes I think the 2006 engine has very little to do with what Ilien designed 5 years ago.
