That's all fine and dandy, but none of those examples are Best Buy.

I think he is saying that he knows of best buy's SPECIFIC practices -- not standard practices for the industry.

Must be an employee. So they coerce their poor $7.00 per hour clerks into ripping you off with the threat of losing their job then ??

Bought a Samsung DLP that stopped working after 3 days last year. I wanted it EXCHANGED instead of fixed which is what they were insisting. Finally convinced them I WAS NOT going to keep a $4,000 TV that wasn't working from the get go and they finally agreed.

Three weeks later it went out again and now I had serious doubts about it and wanted to return it within the stated 30 day return policy. The floor manager flat out told me ITS NOT COMING BACK. No kidding - those were his exact words. Said the exchange voided that possibility - WTF?

They did fix it and it has performed well for a year - but I then felt compelled to buy the warranty because of the uncertainty I had over the set.

I am in the trading business and when I need something I can't get from my suppliers I always went to best buy (and kept the bonus points).

They didnt even bother to check what type of customer I was - I'm not your average pimple face X-box buyer - why bother keeping databases if your going to P*** off your higher end customers?

It is apparent the store employees are entry level or just above (managers) and this type of short sightedness has got to hurt them in the long run.

I no longer shop there but I do have an alternative - I have bought a 43 Pioneer plasma and a 32 LCD and just picked up a 20" spectre cinema screen I'm looking at while typing this.

Kramer on Mad Money loves Best Buy - maybe I should send him this thread...

How can these people still be in business???? Not replacing something that broke 3 days after you bought it. They really don't care , that is why I just paid the $4.14 interest and called it a lesson learned. I will never buy anything from them again and will continue to warn everyone I know about them.

I usually shop at box stores when I know I will be returning the item after I'm done using it....lmao. F*** them, there is a price to pay for moving into an area and closing down all the independent stoes!. I bought a 50 inch plasma from Costco a couple of years ago and payed $9000.00 for it. 6 months later they drop the price down to $6000.00. HOLY CRAP, a $3000.00 dollar difference iin 6 months. When I approached the manager and told him that I wanted the difference back, he said they couldn't do it. So I told him I was going to be returning it because I was not satisified with the picture quality(purely a lie) and would be purchasing a new one from their store for the discounted price after returning mine. He told me he would not allow me to do that. I told him I would do it at a different store where they didn't know I was returning it because of the price difference. After a bit of arguing , They gave me a check for the difference. Funny thing is, 3 more months go by and the same plasma is reduced down to $3000.00.That's a $6000.00 drop in 9 months. Back again for more arguing and another cheque. The moral of this story, use them for what they are worth ....SH*T.

Wa Wa Wa.. Everybody b!tches about the terrible wrong a large store has done to the community.. whatever. All electronics should be bought on the internet at a 30% discount or more on ANY store prices.

BUT, given the choice between a "local" electronics store that offers limited product range, limited hours of operation, and has to charge more, or a big company store that has its own tradeoffs, I will take the box store. Sure the CSRs are annoying, the policies can be confusing, and you wait in line b/c thousands of ppl are there trying to buy stuff, but the alternative is...

I worked at BB for 2 years when I was 17 yrs old. No commision. No bonus. No nothing. Lots of pressure to push the service plan and even required to offer 3 times or get a reprimand. So dont take it out on the poor CSR. He just taking what they're given b/c he's workin for a livin. ;)

As far as the financing issue: Your an adult. You went into a place of business that is a large Corporate chain. You didnt notice the million pages of small print on the back of the papers you signed? In ANY large corporate retailer financing anything = takin it in the butt. Are the ads misleading? The large print "Get something for Free!!" throw you off? Sure, but take a second to think, b/c nothing is ever what it seems in the world of corporate finance. That goes for BB, CC, Tweeter, whatever. If you feel slighted dont boycott bestbuy, boycott everybody. Believe me, they are really going to miss your 10k... NOT

So you basically acted like a ***** and asked a manager to give you a $6k discount on something you choose to buy 6 mo ago?? Its supply and demand my friend. Dont want the new F430 b/c it is going to cost you $50k over MSRP?? OK, then dont buy it. New tech is hugely inflated b/c the small market that will choose to buy it will do just that. If you wanted the $3k price, wait 6 mo like the rest of the world and vote with your $.

You are such a F**king loser. Imagine going to buy a Honda civic For $25,000, then going back a few months down the road and seeing the same car for $8,000 from the same dealer because"they wanted to clear their inventory" you must be made of stone if you can tell me you wouldn't feel ripped off. Either you have tons of money in which case i can see why you would defend the huge corporations, or you're just a complete young ass who has absolutely no idea how hard it is to make $6000.00 because your living at home sponging off of your parents. Di*k head

I would do again in a heart beat if I new I could save myself $6000.00 and not have some corporate slime ball make it as part of his million dollar bonus for ripping consumers off!!

    Cheers,

    ;- )~

You know, you're right. I'm calling up my realtor right now.. this house was only worth $89k in 1976. Why the F should I have to pay $950k for it today??

A...ya...I think we're talking about two different things here. Consumer products sold to the public and Real Estate are two different things. And we're talking about a couple of months not 3 decades. Now, if you were to buy a house off a builder for lets say $230,000 and then you go back two months later and the builder that sold you the house decided to drop the price to 80,000 and your neighbour bought the exact house as yours for $80,000. That would be more of a good comparison. Again you would have to be made of stone if it didn't bother you. I bet MButner would put his tail between his legs and complain then.

    No, we're not.

A product or service is always worth what someone is willing to pay for it at the time of the transaction. YOU wanted to pay 9k and YOU wanted (and unfortunately received) a refund to cover the difference in market value over 6-9 months. Had it been within a couple of weeks I could understand, but if you've already used it for 6 months! That TV is no longer worth 9k, period.

IMHO considering the lifespan of plasma's you would've been better off boxing it back up, returning it, getting yourself a new set and 3k in your pocket.

An intelligent buyer wouldn't make that mistake- be upset that your neighbor was smart enough to wait those two months, but don't get angry because you paid the asking price at the time. There's no gun to your head.

Cheers yourself. Must have hit a sore spot with you seeing that you responded with such venom. Apparently you have never bought any higher end electronics before or you would have expected the huge drop in price, as is the case with any "new" technology. (Please feel free to ramble on now about how you were the first person with a VCR, etc...) I was merely pointing out the fact that you went back to a retailer to ask for something that cannot be done, unless its Uncle Charlie's Backyard Electronics Boutique. As far as me living w/ the parents. Tough luck. I rent a condo in Arlington VA, work in the nations capital, and paid for my own education.

Conversely, I will not attempt to slander you simply for the fact that I cannot be too upset with the owner of a very nice 246.
