I just downloaded the most recent version of Firefox (1.0.5.1 or something), and in the process all my bookmarks have disappeared.

I still have most of them on IE - is there an easy way to copy the bookmarks from IE to Firefox?

    Many thanks,

    Neil

There should have been a field during the installation to import the bookmarks from IE, uninstall Firefox and do it again and it should prompt you. It's usually automatic, perhaps you missed it during all the install pages...

    To get your IE bookmarks...
In FF go to Boomarks -> Manage Bookmarks... -> File -> Import -> From MS IE. Hit Next, and you should be ready set go.

I think when you update FF it asks if you want to import your old bookmarks. Maybe you skipped over that process?

there is something called profiles in firefox, or any mozilla release for that matter. It should be in your mozilla firefox folder, when you choose it you can change to your old profile which should be called 'Default', however there is a possibility that you might have replaced that profile by mistake.

After suffering problems like yours I've decided to move most of my bookmarks to a website called del.icio.us ( http://del.icio.us/ ) that allows you to save your bookmarks online and can be accessed from any computer, I really like it and well I guess Yahoo! liked it too, they bought it. (btw its free).

Click the bell in the top right corner of the firefox window. It will tell you if there are updates and newer versions. It should be blue, if it's red there are 'critical' updates.

Thank you, all of you, for your help. I will try your suggestions later today when I have time.

FWIW, there was no time during the update process when this option was available. Just install the standard version, hit Next, then that was it.

OKay, did that and it worked....sort of.

On FF, I click 'Bookmarks', and I still don't have anything there from IE. What I have to do is then click on 'Manage Bookmarks', which opens up a new window with my bookmarks included in there from IE, like little files.

Is there now a way to move them to where they should be on FF, as links under the 'Bookmarks' option?

Sorry to trouble everyone with this, but it seems to me the process should be easier than this.

Wish I could help.....the other day when I opened Firefox, instead of my homepage I just saw a screen saying the latest version of FF could be downloaded by clicking 'here'....so that's what I did.

Go back to Manage Bookmarks then you can drag and drop and create and delete new bookmark subfolders etc.
