Again Kovalainen beat Fisichella in test runs at Valencia. The McLarens were both over 1/2 a second back. Looks like a continuation of last year's season with the difference that Ferrari now has a say in it again.

I can't wait for Kovalainen to make his racing debut.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but testing times don't
really mean that much. Each driver could have and probably
were working on different testing structures, and the team
is the only one to know the true timing benchmark. By this
point in the testing program, they know if their car has the
potential to be fast, and now they're looking for reliability.
Look at Ant Davidson's times with BAR the past few years,
fast, but not enough to get him a mid-level or higher F-1 ride.

The only reason Davidson hasn't gotten a mid-level ride is because he doesn't bring with him any meaningful sponsorship or money. He's just like most other British hopefuls, long on talent short on cash (remember Justin Wilson).

Yeah, but Wilson's other problem was that, besides being long on talent, he was just long!

I am long too but lack the tallent. Not much of sponsorship that comes with me either. So where would I stand in that case :)

Kova will be in F1 next year that's for sure. Can't wait!

Beating Fisi in winter testing doesn't mean that much. Sure he's fast but you don't know the programs, fuel loads etc.

Montagny was always on top of the timesheets remember? (or maybe I'm wrong)

    Flatoutracing:

Regarding Ant, please remember that he was a Friday test driver
with no restrictions regarding RPM, and therefore he could push the
car/ engine combo because the package wasn't expected to race
on Sunday. This was the main reason for his outstanding times, and I
think the team principal's realize this fact. Thanks!

I have never been overly impressed with Fisi, and this just confirms it even more.

I am not basing my opinion of Ant on Friday practice. He's been fast at every level. He won Championships all the way from junior karts, formula ford, F3 (both Euro and UK) and he's done well in testing.

Kovalainen being quicker than Fisico doesn't suprise me. It would not suprise me to see Kovalainen faster than any Formula 1 race car driver on a given day. I think Kovalainen will be a future F1 champion for sure. I do think Fisico will have a much better season this year though. Renault is going to be tough.
