This might be a silly question, but does the 250 have an odometer? I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this...

 

288 for me...year i was born....

 

Those times for a 288GTO are way slow. Those times seem to be from the Road & Track when they tested "Escort" radar detectors founder 288GTO. Before that test they had much faster times posted, the same thing goes with Testarossa times (they always were 0-60 in 5.3 sec and 1/4mile in 13.3 sec), once they tested a car with bad synchronizers and got 0-60 in 6.2 and the 1/4mile in 14.2 and guess what, those were the times posted from there on! A 288GTO is a car that can reach 0-60 in 4.8 sec and 1/4mile in 12.7 sec. and in one test it reached 191mph.
I rather own a 288GTO because is my favorite Ferrari, but if I was living in Europe then the 250GTO. I once walked out of a hotel in France back in '87, it was like 6 a.m. with no cars or any noise around, then I listened to this oncoming sound from a distance and as it was getting closer to me I knew it that it was something very exotic and special coming over and it was a 250GTO, such music. The 250 is just a more special and important Ferrari.

 

Between 250 and 288...Hmm that's very hard.

Well said. The main reason why a restoration shouldn't strip all that away.

 

It would be pure fantasy to even drive a 250 GTO ANYWHERE considering its value, so it would be nothing more than an expensive museum piece, such as shame really. It is breathtaking though. Still, being a child of the '80s, I grew up loving the 288 GTO as well, and being somewhat more useable and something I wouldn't actually mind driving from time to time, it would be my choice. The old '80s USA test with the 1/4 mile at 14.1s was not very representative either, apparently other tests have been as quick as mid 12s with healthy cars and better conditions, it is very quick! Even an old 14.1s time I saw had a 114 mph trap speed, which shows the true power of the car.

Did anyone see the fairly recent EVO where they compared all the super Ferraris? The 288 did very well, despite being down on HP compared to the others.

Then, I'll take that one car.

 

I've always loved the 308. When the 288 came out I saw it as a 308 on steroids.

Flaired body and twin turbos.

While I do like both cars I would take the 250 GTO. One of the main reasons for this is that the 250 has a better history than the 288.

Now if I did have a 250 GTO I know that I would spend more time driving it then putting it on display somewhere.

as much as I love the 250GTo, i would never own one, even if I could. It just doesn't do it for me. When I look at a 250, I see a beautiful car that I have no interest in driving.
288GTO however won me over the first time I saw a pic. I never even heard about the car before the last couple years. Not a very popular Ferrari obviously. In any case, as soon as I saw it I fell in love. The lines on that car are, in my eyes, the perfect sports car design. It just looks so menacing!
No question, I would take a 288GTO over a 250GTO any day of the week (not concidering value).
