My brother is moving soon, and his options are: 1) Newark, NJ 2) Rochester, NY 3) Toledo, Ohio 4) Oklahoma City 5) Sacramento, CA 6) lebanon, NH Anybody have anything good/bad to say about these cities? Which would you choose? Thanks
None.......How about one of these? Boring, Oregon Climax, Michigan French Lick, Indiana Intercourse, Pennsylvania Why, Arizona Flushing, New York Hell, Michigan Crappo, Maryland Blue Ball, Pennsylvania Mud Lick, Kentucky Waterproof, Louisiana Boysack (Tayside, Scot.) Dildo, Newfoundland, Canada Gay, Michigan Happyland, Oklahoma
Sac is not bad. Upgrade that to Roseville. Its still CA, which sucks (if you have income), but closest to Nevada, which rocks!
Hit the other side of Sacramento. I drove through El Dorado Hills this afternoon. The number of homes going up there is insane! Granite Bay in Folsom is also fairly nice.
As a Sacramento native, and since I do live in Roseville, I do like it here. Its a pretty quiet place to live compared to other cities but it is primarily a government town, so there really isn't much to do in terms of exciting night life, etc., but it is nice to be between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. Make sure your brother looks at home prices before he moves since that may dictate where he can afford to live. As for me, if my family business could be relocated, i'd move to San Diego in a heartbeat.
I'll say a kind word for Sacramento CA, though I've never lived there myself. Climate-wise, it gets too hot in the summer; but otherwise the weather is moderate. It was also a pretty fast grower in the 90's and probably hasn't done too badly since. It's 1.5 hours each from Tahoe and the SF Bay Area. The one gets you very nice recreational activities and the other very nice cultural activities. As the capital of California, it's not likely to decline in housing prices and it's likely to continue to improve as a city.
Well they are all sort of loser spots but Sacramento is the best bcus Willows race track is 1 hr N, Tahoe is 1 hr E, & San Fran is 1 hr W
Did I forget to mention that Sac gets into country music, there's a nice railroad museum and a UC nearby?
I spent 15 years living in Boring. Is where I learned the fine art of home appliance/Chevelle on blocks lawn ornamentation...
Out of those, I would select Sacramento. Toledo seems too boring. Oklahoma City may be too country? Newark isn't one of the best areas to live. Rochestor may be too cold.
It would seem that the best choice is a review of each of the hospitals and what they offer in the long run with the choice of city being second to that. OKC is not country as perceived in a comment in an previous post - it's probably the one on the list whereby your brother would have the most spendable cash after all is said and done. I'd guess it's the one state on the list with the lowest state income tax (thankgod we don't have that here in TX). There's also the Indian reservations with their casinos if you are so inclined. Preferred city is a personal choice, depending on the individual. For example, I wouldn't live in California for anything -- but that's me. For those who think that Toledo is "boring", remember the ancient Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times". Many of the things that make a city exciting are things you want to see from a long way away. To me, gridlock is somewhere between "boring" and "infuriating" ... expecially in cities where blatant highway mismanagement is creating gridlock that could easily have been prevented. When you're younger, you're willing to put up with big brother politics, traffic jams, massive crime rates, etc., to be "where the action is" (to wit: the "pick up" scene). When you become a parent, you want a safe place to raise children (to turn them into the spoiled little suburbanites you hated when you were a kid ). When you get older, you want quiet. And convenient, uncrowded stores. (Although these days, you pretty much have to go mail order for anything that isn't garbage.) For every city you hate, there are several thousand people who like it there. Viva la difference.
how are these his options? is his field not involved in the match? I mean he could have preferences I suppose for his rank but not a choice...
Sacramento, of those choices. Second would probably be NH, which is a very quiet and pretty place - but too cold for me!
