You guys kill me with your blind allegiance to Space Shuttles!
Do you all think just because you own a space shuttle that you're John Glenn?

Funny thread as I used to work in the simulation buildings at JSC and have been on many flight sims with Astronauts over the years, the thing can feel like a roller coaster. Yeah, assume 3g's will pin your ass back into the seat.

Like Han Solo says "its fast enough for you old man"

I talked to my local shuttle dealer and he said if it hasn't had the 3,000,000 major, it isn't worth it. Make sure you take it in for the PPI. Get the SIN and go to www.shuttlefax.com to make sure it hasn't been wrecked and the title is not salvaged. Of course that is only good if the repairs were turned into the insurance comopany. Have you called your insurance comapny yet? I am sure it isn't cheap. If you have children, I don't think you can turn the air bags off. Just my .02...post pics when/if you get it!

I think the original post was to hear opinions from people who actually have flown space shuttles. Some comments here are just from people who read space shuttle magazines and watch space shows.

Personally, I think anyone who owns a space shuttle is compensating for something....

You guys are all about as stupid as they come. A Lame-O shuttle is far superior in every way to those low tech prancing donkey dick POS's you guy's have.

Hey! Why don't you all just run along, I think I hear your mothers calling.

Honestly, Shuttles cost twice as much as Titans and not double the fun. Titans have no power steering, traction control, 5 valves and other stupid gizmos which will fail while you on the PCH when you try avoiding utility poles(as an example...). Titans are the last of the real hairy machines, their looks are not for everyone but believe me, they rock.

Look guys, just because the logo on the side of the booster says NASA doesn't mean that it is a fast intergalactic transporter. Some of you guys are really blind to fact the these older shuttles are over priced and don't enter/exit orbit nearly as fast as the original poster is expecting.

Plus, have you heard one of these older shuttles without test pipes? Those older turds weight 165k lbs.

Next time you're in town I'll take you for a spin in my shuttle sim. And for comparison we'll also do a suborbital in Mercury and the X-15. :)

To answer your question, kinda depends on how you define "quick":
No other manned space craft does 0 to 60 like the Shuttle. A proverbial kick in the rear. However if high velocity reentries are your cup of tea, nothing beats an Apollo return from the Moon.

Absolutely! The only shuttle worth having is a Lame-O with the 'Cringing Cow' on it!

I put a K&N filter in mine. It was alittle faster (maybe added 3-5 horses) and sounded alot better.

The first 20 posts in this thread are great. I can't believe that this stuff is on Ferrarichat.

The space shuttle will definately put you "back in your seat". It pulls 8g during launch.

The Tubi afterburners makes for a sweet sounding shuttle. Lift off from Cape can be heard in Toronto.

Make sure it has had the 30k mile service. The dealer charges a lot for that if it needs to be done. Also, get a PPI.

If you define launch as SRB ignition then yes. But that's only for a very short moment. The loads are deliberately kept <=3g by throttling the SSMEs (hence the bucket profile). In flight you actually pull slightly bigger loads in Soyuz.

I've witnessed a launch from the press area, closest they allow people where that clock is, and it definately has a nice aftermarket exhaust. I think it's burning a little oil though.

Those old shuttles aren't really NASA shuttles, you know, they are really Dino's (Only 2 boosters).

Oh yeah, and make sure the green dot (sticker) is current and in the correct location.

Well, gee, I'm sorry, but ever since that b!tch Ellen Ripley blew up my cargo ship Nostromo because she was afraid of an iguana, now all I have to cruise around in is my X-wing.

On a sidenote: One of the more recent shuttle flights to the ISS delivered the Italian cargo module and had an Italian astronaut on board. After return to Earth, the entire crew was invited to visit the Ferrari factory and they did.
