All of my replicas have been far superior to there real cousins. My current Shelby Cobra will out run anything on the road including high end exotics. Power to weight ratio says it all. And it handles. that car is better off with the non original engine. None of you guys would buy it if you knew it was stolen anyways.

I see your point, but then why not stick a silly turboed Supra 3.0 engine in with about 700hp, is that still acceptable, it will be so much quicker than a normal 308.

he's got a Ferrari on the road and we have one less post on " when do I have to change my belts." It is all about cars, frankenstein cars too. look at F1 and indy, you have chassis builders and engine builders...Ferrari does both. Frankly I'd be curious in a test drive report.... an automatic 308, guess he caould say it is just like the F1 transmission.

if it had a nice ZO6 engine in it would be pretty cool

an auto trans would just kill a 308 though, Shame

That would make a 308 move out the way it should.

Anybody ever read the article or heard about Norwood Performace who put a 454 in the back of a strecthed 308 GTB to run at Bonneville....?? Is that worse than a kit car?? A 200 MPH, 454 GTB built and run by one of the nations leading independent Ferrari performance shops??

This GTSi is misguided perhaps but for someone it made sense at the time. Also, I don't think the guy selling the car did the conversion, he bought it that way.

People can say/feel what they like but I'd rather see a ferrari on the road than parted out and sitting in some junkyard because it didn't make "economic sense" to rebuild/repair it.

    Here are my thoughts

    1. I've got the green light to pick up a Mondial as our second Ferrari.
    2. We now live in a very hilly city and my wife is not so great at driving a stick.
    3. I/we have about 5 months to drive our cars, thus I'm not going to go out and spend $50K-$60K+ on the (auto) Mondy or more for a 456, etc..

As such, if I found a nice mondial 8 that was otherwise going to the parts lot with a bad engine or whatever, I'd throw in a 300+ HP Northstar. I wouldn't have to worry about my wife buring out the clutch every summer, service or belts, and most of all taking it up the a$$ on just about every little part....

I'm not defending this car as such, as it doesn't look to be a very professional job. I'm just saying that there are a lot worse things you can do to a Ferrari than save it from the parts bin by powering it with a non OEM lump.

    Ask yourself this...

If all things were equal and you loved driving your ferrari beyond life itself, but for some reason you could no longer drive a stick and couldn't afford or didn't want to step up to the auto ferraris like a 456 (and weren't interested in 412's, etc...), what would you do to keep driving your Ferrari?

Looking at the pics, you could probably fit in a 3.8 S/C V6 with no problem. The S/C 3.8 has a good aftermarket following and you could get 280-300 HP out of it.

Not me...The automatic tranny part maybe, but a Ferrari is the motor, that is what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari, anything else wont work. I can see your point about the gearbox as age gets on and cant shift anymore but it has to have the right motor or it might as well be a Chevy.

I'l have to admit to not being that much of a purist. I love just about everything that burns dead dinosaurs. More so if there are two and we can race. I'll bet that car is a decent driver, and of course a small block would fit...

Here's a picture of one of my 'Porsches'. Really wows them at the concours; they make me park across the street. But 2300# curb weight, 400# of torque, and $2000 rebuilds isn't so bad.

I would't but that 308, but I'm sure someone will and they will think they got a "good deal".

The question constantly asked in life is why? The answer is, why not? You're only limited by your imagination, bank account, skill, as to what engine you can use. Hell you could put two motorcycle engines back there! You could even put an engine up front if you wanted to.

3800 is a common engine swap for fieros. The builder probably had one that he was going to put into a Fiero 308 kit car project. That is until he came across a real 308 in that state and got an idea.

So I guess if you put a Ferrari motor into a Honda Civic it becomes a Ferrari?

There's a famous Hot rod out there called the "Deucari." A 32 Deuce with a 330 v-12. It was built in the late 70's and I haven't found any good links/pics to drop here, but it's been done that way too.

Picture it: 308 GT4, in "Green Go" with black wheels, and a turbo Northstar V8 in the back. Just as soon as I get a workshop, I'll start collecting the pieces

...There are those who would put an Audi engine in a VW and call it Lamborghini.
