I understand that this day many of the Testarossa with a single side mirror high mounted owners have their side mirrors move down and add another to be a normal two mirrors now... for better viewing and look. BUT, what do you think about the look of the single mirror on the Testarossa...? Do you like it with the single mirror? or it feels unbalanced somehow...? I think the single mirror become rare this day. How do you like them....???

The unilateral high-mounted mirror was in keeping with its radical design when the Testarossa first appeared more than 20 years ago. The design is familiar today, but when I see one with that mirror, it takes me back to those early days! I like it.

I like it - Makes it look more exotic for some reason. :)

I heard the story goes that it wasn't originally intended there, but there was a law that you had to see 100% out that mirror & the fenders blocked the view when the mirror was lower.

The law later changed to 80% visibility out the side mirror & it was moved back down to the originally designed position.

I don't remember where I read that though....

I like it too!!! It does make it more exotic looking.
Besides, it was the poster hanging on my wall when I was in college so it got ingrained in my head that's how a TR should look.

I liked the exotic look of a single high mounted mirror but, when I got into one that had high mounted single mirror, I could not see too well. Beside that it looks very sexy :)

    Thank you guys....
I am in between decisions as mine had single mirror originally but then was changed to two mirrors. I agree that the two mirror looks more settle or more like a car. A single mirror looks unbalanced somehow but exotic, yes..... But, I cann't get the picture of a single mirror off of my head. I think deep deep down I like the single mirror... but there is still some but... help me out... I'm almost there....

From the outside I don't mind which way they are mounted or wether there are one or two mirrors,All I know is the view from the mirrors on my 89 Testarossa of the rear wings is awesome.Worth buying the car for that alone!

IMHO, the single mirror TR is the best looking TR up to the 512M model...the asymmetrical look is more exotic...

I believe one mounted on the passengers at the same height is just useless as the A pillar blocks the view from the drivers seat.

The only thing I don't like it not having a passenger side mirror. Safety first! :)

The single mirror was created because legislation in Italy at that time stated that it was not allowed to have the rear view obstructed by body parts of the car. Because of the high rear fender they had to put the mirror really high on the A pillar. It is said that Pininfarina never liked this.
The reason that they chose for only one mirror is because it would be impossible to look in the other mirror from a normal driving position.

Just months after the Testarossa was introduced the legislation was changed. Ferrari immediately changed the mirrors on the cars.

Nevertheless the single mirror Testarossa is a classic. I love it!

But then, there is no other single mirror or high mounted mirror on other cars or Ferrari launching in the same period. Nearly all exotic car of that period have poor view rear mirrow... especially the Countach QV.

Yes but they did not have that high flat rear haunch to see over.

To me, driving the TR is like driving a normal car. The rear view through the mirror is so normal I never notice anything unlike the Esprit I notice the limited view especilly top to bottom very narrow. The Diablo is like nothing to see...
