Need to build some cabinets in the garage, and need some advise.

Looking to make the garage, more like a room that I park cars in.

    Thanks

I don't like the typical shelfs in cabinets that seem to sway when you put a pound of feathers on them, so I purchased some wire rack shelving units (3'x2'x6') and had a local cabinet shop fit the shelving units into a cabinet enclosure. The cabinets are sized just right to have two standand plastic totes side-by-side on one shelf.

I bought the wire racks from Home Depot / Home Expo.

I second the recommendation on GarageJunkies.net ... great information/pics at that site.

I bought the $38 flat packed white melamine wall cabinets from Home Depot and added plywood backs to them before installing. This makes them tremendously stronger and costs little. They have hinges like nice kitchen cabinets which are hidden and adjustable to keep the doors nice and square against the front. Great feature for an affordable cabinet.

If you have several cabinets sides by side be sure to screw them to eachother through their sides as this also makes them much stronger. If you need to put really heavy things in there rip some shelves from 1/2" or 3/4" plywood and they will never warp. I have lots of heavy cans and car parts in these cabinets and they're plenty sturdy with the shelves they came with.

It was a little extra work to modify these cabinets but I still spent far, far less than any other wood or plastic cabinet system I could find and mine are now just as strong.

    Norman,
Those cabinets are formica covered? They look good (white with black edge).

P.S. For about $65 you can equip yourself to cut and solder copper pipe. It is very simple.

The cabinets are melamine based (engineered particle board). The cabinet shop (http://www.ironwoodfixtures.biz) I hired has a state-of-the-art cabinet fabrication facility - all computer controlled equipment! Sheets of melamine were cut to shape and then a high quality edging (black) was added to all panel edges.

The cost of the water system included installation - though sweating copper pipe is not difficult, I had the installer do that portion of work. I took care of the unistrut channel and hardware installation.

And wisely refrained from allowing the copper to contact the galvanized unistrut.
    Good.
    And a good looking garage.

Thanks for the compliments - lots of sweat went into the garage, and I'm not done yet!

Unistrut has all the goodies for quality engineered work!

I'm considering Bald Head if I go high end. I've seen their product. It's impressive. Also, just discovered Equipto(I know,I know...funny name). I don't know their prices yet but I think they should be lower.

What's driving me crazy is trying to decide how many and what size drawers and cabinets I need.
