Two additional comments: 1. The rule of thumb is that actual manufacturing cost is 25% of retail. So Ferrari's 'repair' (replacement) quote seems doable. 2. If the impact with the pole was estimated at 162mph; his speed, when he lost it ,was much higher - probably around 200mph as originally quoted! Art S.
Malibu Mystery Races Away With Buzz Thursday March 02, 2006 11:00AM PT Wrecked Ferrari It was a rare and exotic animal: a Ferrari Enzo, one of just 400 ever brought forth into this world. When you saw this thing coming, you didn't look away. If you wanted to own it, it cost you a cool $1 mil -- and it could earn you a whole lot of buzz. Last week, Swedish millionaire Stefan Ericksson slipped behind the wheel of his Enzo with, he says, a German named "Dietrich." They took the vehicle out on Malibu's Pacific Coast Highway. And they let that baby run. The car, that fierce, beautiful creature, hit speeds of 162 mph; it was practically airborne. It crested the hill, neared a power pole, and perhaps then, or perhaps never, did its driver spot the bump in the road. Now we have one less Ferrari Enzo left idling in existence. "Dietrich," if he exists at all, has run off into the hills. Ericksson, a former Gizmondo exec, is nursing a bruised lip behind the gates of his Bel-Air mansion and claiming that he remembers nothing. And a slew of searches are roaring at unseen speeds up the Buzz. From "ferrari" to "enzo ferrari" to "enzo crash," from "stefan ericksson" to "gizmondo" to "malibu," the searches just keep rolling in. As police investigate a gun magazine found near the wreck, Scotland Yard gets involved, and reporters mutter "plot thickens," we're watching for more buzz to come down the road.
I still can't figure out, why the same Enzo, that promoted Pirelli tyres on the SEMA (quote SEMA:Their Ferrari Enzo had 19- and 20- inch fitments of Pirelli Rossos...) would be riding some other brand of tires (which profile I do not recognize) few hundred miles down the road??? Maybe it's not the same car after all? (I now It's peanuts to change the tires if you have that kind of money, but even though - why would you?) As you can see on the pics it's definitely not the same profile. Also check the pattern on the SEMA one. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Flash a DHS badge...and, get in ? I hope the police are more diligent and smarter than that !! Otherwise, we're goin' to hell in a handbasket !!
It's very possible! Are you kidding me, the police smarter than that? It's just a good thing they weren't flashing that badge to get into a Superbowl with an Enzo filled with explosives!
Trust the media to get it wrong....Should have been 40 -cal. 40mm is antiaircraft size. Glocks come in 9mm,.357,40cal, .380, 10mm, 45cal Just thought I'd note
I think the car can be rebuilt for $300k easy. Keep in mind that the actual MSRP on the car was $650k and most of the major cost components like the engine, etc can likely be reused. I realize the car looked pretty hammered in the pictures, but there's still a lot of good useable parts left to mitigate some of the cost. Question is, will it be a "salvaged" car or classified as "refurbished" like an HP computer that was sent back to the manufacturer from Best Buy. Would you buy a storied, factory reconditioned Enzo from Ferrari?? Makes me wonder if the MSRP was $650k what the real cost to build one from scratch really is.
Exactly my point ultra-rich guys get away with everything. 1. his cars were not registered or insured in CA or the US 2.he lied about the wreck 3. It seems he stole all his money 4.all the other stuff If it were a black man or a long haired guy in a pinto they would already be in jail. if I am wrong I apologize, I still say deport him, or better yet sell him one of our ports.
First and foremost, no all capitalists in the USA are immoral. I know Marx of Lenin might have tried to teach you differently, but it's not true. Some folks here try to earn their money and they try to do it by the rules.
Really is it a big deal in CA or US that you have to register the Car on local licence plates even if you want to drive it for only a little while. I thought say if you were keeping the car only for say less than a year in the country you could drive it on the current plates. Steffan didnt steal the money from Gizzmondo,he over spend his investors money. He still has a Black Enzo, 2 Carrera GT,Maybach,Phantom and a Zonda. Which the bank cant touch. - Confidential I like that "sell him one of our ports".ha ha ha. Actually dubai ports is a very wealthy company. They will end up getting the port control I think from P&O.
Actually in CA if you are driving without your car being registered it can be siezed and auctioned off. Rules here can be overly harsh, that is why this whole situation makes it harder for us other Ferrari guys to use their cars in lets say a sporting way. The press on this story has put Ferrari's and their owners on the front page. I think driving fast is safer if you know the limits of your car, your driving abilities and your environment. He was drinking and driving at night to me which is plain stupid and reckless. It is my understanding that the red enzo was in the process of being repossesed which means he either did not pay for it or stopped paying for it. The reason he is here is it is 70 degrees almost all year and we have some of the most beautiful roads (and people)
How many enzo's does this guy have? http://videos.streetfire.net/recentvideos/5/32161922-558B-4EC4-B60D-2C4E3E355BED.htm
Thanks for the flashback! I kinda miss my M-79, just not the circumstances. 'Do not put your thumb around the stock!!!'
