How about posting in OOF limited to members with more then 500 posts? Or at least 200?
If that happens, then they new guys are just goin to fill the other threads with sh*t till they get to 200 or 500 posts. Then they will contribute sh*t in here like the rest of us Lets just try and keep the sh*t in here
Who cares how many posts they have. If they are a quality user, they'll post quality from day one. People who post crap start that way and stay that way. No one suddenly becomes a "good" poster. So waiting for them to post 500 pieces of crap before they can enter the sanctified OOT is a giant waste of time. Besides, one man's crap is another man's....um.....good crap. DM
But whos goin to decypher whats crap and whats not?? You may think its a crap post, but yet a moderator may have a laugh and like it?? I know what you are saying, but its a very very hard thing to do here i think?
perhaps a limit on the number of posts/day until you have been a member for certain time period..... that would force people to lurk and read before they monopolize and flood... just a thought
and the purpose of limiting access for people with, say, over 200 posts is what? preventing people from posting craps? you see people with thousand of posts posting craps here everyday, like: lol, lmao..in their replies. why don't you make your own chat site and call your own shots?
I'm too new to this site to have too much background,... but that's kind of my point. Carbon seems to know as much about enzo's by serial number as anyone. I have a lot more understanding for OT posts from someone like carbon than from someone who probably wouldn't recognize the name enzo if it was used in a sentence.
I think [young] people would just postwhore and make silly one word posts until they hit whatever limit. It would drag down every other area, and I don't think the older guys would wait around that long.
That's the risk of any limits. however a post/day or post/week limit for an amount of time would avoid a lot of that. Say there's a new user looking for a 250GTE. if there was a 4 post / day or 30 post / week limit. any real enthusiast could work within that I would think. Just my 0.02 That said, I know NOTHING about running a website/chatroom! Just seems like a sensible method of preventing some issues to me.
What issues? This is a place to relax and have fun. It's not supposed to be serious all the time, especially in OOT. Now, I have seen boards that don't count posts in certain areas. While that doesn't fix the quality issue, it would stop some of the post whoring if P&R and OOT didn't count.
who cares about post counts? in the end there are half-dozen or so boards i regularly read almost as much as fchat, but might only have 10-500 posts on there. i mostly only post here, and that's primarily because there's a healthy regional section where i chat to other aussie yobbos like me. if it weren't for the aussie section, i'd have almost nothing to say in the 'real' forums, those are where i go to read and learn. besides, all of my posts are of astoundingly great quality, just so happens i can provide the quantity too. i'm built for speed and comfort, baby.
Finally!! Something sensible from Art!!!! I gues I better hurry up and post a boatload of stuff so I can clear the new MEGA POSTING BARRIER. DM
My feelings on various voluminous posters are clear. P&R posts are recognized as potentially destructive to the fabric of the community, as are some users and their habits. Guess no P&R for them. <-oblig smilie Many have high post counts, yet nothing to say cogently without malice. Maybe a weight limit? But we'd have to bring back Gentry. Or an integrity test for high post counters. Or, we could have subscribed and nonsubscribed OT sections.
You know sunny, back in my day, if you wanted to make a contribution to a board you had to ramble on for paragraph after paragraph in a self righteous diatribe on how much you knew. Then to prove it, you would include links to other posts where you enlightned the entire community. We were proud to hit numbers like 50,000,000,000 posts in a single day. That is the correct was to use an internet forum... Get a grip! NO OBLIGATORY SMILE FOR YOU SIR!
