Very true, most left the road backwards and were properly named Widowmakers, probably the real reason Porsche stopped importing them in 1980 was the threat of lawsuits from the accidents.

jeff, i had my first 930 in 1989...a red with cashmire 86 car. stock w/ a monte muffler (it was the hot tip back then)

well, i love that car and remember thinking one night that real good porsche drivers were fast in the rain...

...well one rainy night i got into a corner a bit too fast. it was a fast sweeper (4th gear) that i was ready to the do the rolf stomelen thing...i did too!

the next thing i remember was going backward at a very high rate of speed and that was all she wrote.

my beloved turbo bit the dust. it beat me that night but i have since gotten it right.

Wow, at least you are here to talk about it:).

    Was the car totalled?

I think alot of turbos bit the dust after the drivers had a few too many martinis at lunch and drove back to the office a little fast or after work at happy hour, you need to have fast reflexes with them.

Like Clarkson said "Porsche design the least a man can get."

Funny how similiar the rear of the 996 & 997 are!

Another thing I noticed is the brakes seem to grow every other generation, so the next turbo should have some 15" plus rotors hahaha.

The key that makes the modern cars great is the ability of AWD to put all the torque to the pavement. A 930, 965 even a GT2 is not capable of that. Sliding around is fun, but most are interested in usable power.

Otherwise, we could all be happy with Vipers......

Sharky: Say what you may about the AWD system, but a GT2 or even a GT3 will spank a turbo around most tracks. All the added weight does not help the car in most dry situations. In the rain, thats a different story.
    Regards, Darrell.

yes, i will own a Countach, but it must be "the right countach" . for it will not be a car that i will flip and sell. it will be a keeper, warts and all.
