Don't hold your breath waiting for a Dubai GP. Hosting a GP is a money-losing proposition these days, and the Maktoums don't do that. The word from the A1GP founder was that unless a good crowd turned out for the A1 race he wouldn't even bring THAT series back to Dubai, and there was NOBODY at that race.

The Ferrari theme park is going up in Abu Dhabi, apparently, but that's just an hour down the road, so if you do come to see it I highly recommend that you stay in Dubai and make a day trip to Abu Dhabi. Bring lots of money, this place has gotten really expensive....

Sounds like an interesting guy...with a pretty awesome job. I really wish I could read some of his work, maybe I'll have to use freetranslator.com again like I did for my foriegn language classes.

Definitely and the job is kewl. Once in my lifetime I managed to get press credentials and cover a GP with full access to everywhere. It sure was fun.

Heard that Abu Dhabi is pulling for a GP of their own.

Totally agree on Dubai getting to be uber expensive though.

Tough to say since there are so many variables in winter testing; I am just glad that we get to finally see who did their homework and who didn't.

I'm still wondering if the Scuderia should have started the season with a restricted V-10....

Interesting thought. Too late now, but it might have helped assuring important early points while getting the quirks out of the 248.

Problem is that in the past teams with 2 car strategies rarely did well. McLaren killed a season that way and it didn't help Ferrari last year either.

IIRC, teams wishing to use a detuned V-10 had to prove poor finances, which ruled out every team but Minardi.

Oh, I didn't know that. No wonder some teams are now complaining about Toro Rosso. They are NOT a poor team. Anymore.

    No

The rules were written to allow the no-hope teams to field a car and run at the back as usual. The rules also allow for immediate change to the restriction on V-10 engines to equalise the formula. Run fast with a V-10 in friday practice and on Saturday morning you'll have a smaller restrictor plate and/or a lower rev limit. Play silly games and actually win a race with a V-10 and you'll REALLY be sorry.

Like it or not, the only engine that has a chance of doing anything other than trailing around at the back is a 2.4 V8. That is the intent of the rule and the means to enforce the intent is in place.

    Thanks. Did not know that.

Restrictor Plates? Some NASCAR boys will take care of that problem. ;)
