help, i am trying to find out if Giussepe Cappalonga works at Ferrari of Beverly Hills. the former owner of my 1977 308GTB is Robert Plankinger, chasis number *20433*. i was told that Mr Cappalonga has worked on this car for years, and knows it well. i am trying to find out the rest of the service history, and if the belt service was performed earlier this year before the car was sold to John Carey, the person i bought it from.
i have a ton of records since the car was new up until 1994 when Targa Florio in Tarzana was servicing the car. then the records stop. i did find a number ( home) for Mr Cappalonga. i would really rather not bug someone at home when they are with thier family. i will pay to have any records photocopied and sent to me at my expense. any help would be much appriciated. thanks, Michael Morett

    He works there.

    I have his cell number.

Prior to working at Ferrari of Beverly Hills, he was at the Auto Gallery.

Call Eric, the service manager for Fobh @ 310.275.4400

Also call the auto gallery @ 818.884.4411 and see if the car was serviced there.

PM me if you want his cell.

He is not good at remembering specific cars.

I can go down there if you like.

Matt, MANY thanks to you! i will call FOBH and go from there. please Pm his cell, but i would rather bug people about "work stuff" while they are at work, so i will only call his home / cell as a last resort. Robert P , the long time former owner of the car, took it to Mr Cappalonga wherever he worked at. basicly, the clutch is slipping in the car, and i need to know if the belts are 10 years old or not. this way i can do all the service all at once! having a ten year hole in the service records is not fun! :) thanks for the help, i will update with any further developments. Michael

Giuseppe Cappalonga was very nice on the phone. he last saw the car over a year ago. said its a very nice car, but he did not do the t belts. now i am going to get a hold on Robert P. and see if he will be able to tell me if and who did the belts before the car was sold. i will call FOBH and see if they serviced the car.

thanks again for all the help. i may just go down the list and call the various shops wth the vin and the former owners name and see who did the work. guy who sold me the car claims belts et al were all done, but he has yet to produce the service records he said he had. and the clutch is toast.

At this point...the best suggestion for you and for the 308, it will be to do the major service! No matter what the previous owner is telling you. You have to take in consideration that if the timing belts snap... you will be experiencing of a major expense!!!

    Good luck...

    Claudio

I agree. When we bought the Mondial, the belts weren't due for 2 years (if you're on the 5 year plan). I had them replaced anyway and consider the money insurance. You work on planes Michael, consider it an "unknown" status and go ahead and do it for piece of mind. Judging that the clutch needed replacing, I'd put a question mark on all of "recent" service history.

    Let the sorting begin...
