thanks everyone! Barry, I planned on asking them when I go on Sat. The car will be ther anyway, so if it's reasonable I'll probably just upgrade next week. I definately plan on keeping the old parts.

    Chris,

You have a number of alternatives here: ANSA, Stebro, Tubi, Superformance, and several others you'll find if you search FC. Classic will do the modifications well.

If I remember correctly, you have the original muffler in place now. I forgot if your air pumps are online or not. You'll certainly enjoy some increased HP and an enjoyable sound with your new exhaust system.

Are the ones that Superformance sells their own brand or what? Does anyone have any experience with these?

    1) I believe so, yes.

    2) I couldn't find any (US) owners on this site when I was doing an exhuast search myself a month or so ago... At that price, it's almost worth it to buy it and try it. Take some pics, sound files, etc., and post them here. Then, at least others will know the look/sound of the setup *on* a car. If you no likey, there's always eBay.

Last year I purchased an exhaust and a high flow catalyst from Dan at Stebro. I am very pleased by the result. The whole system sounds great and exhaust gases flow better which means I've gained a few horsepower.

While at it, I Cermakromed the headers to reduce engine bay temp. and make exhaust gases flow faster in the headers. My 85' 308QV breathes quite well thank you !

I suggest you call Dan at Stebro and have a chat with him. He knows is stuff and will try is bst to help you !

I wonder what a carbed 308 would sound like with straight pipes? I have an Ansa on my 1976 and it sounds very similar to stock. Its a little louder and a little nicer but its not a huge difference.

I can't say from experience, but I'd expect that the exhausts Superformance sells are for the Euro exhaust, not the US exhaust with cats. Best to check! They only actually SEE euro cars there, so they probably haven't ever actually seen a US spec car with cats. Similar to the situation with coolant expansion tanks; the one they sell as 308GTB/S is for the euro, not the emissions-equipped US cars.

I took the cats and muffler off of my 308GT4 (carbed, obviously) and started it up. It sounded pretty mean! I didn't want to rev it too high because, 1) the engine was cold, and 2) the car was up on ramps/jackstands. I didn't want to go crazy with the revs and risk destabilizing the car in the air...

I can understand the reduction of enginebay temps, but please explain how ceramic coating the headers will make the exhuast gasses flow faster in the manifolds.

I may be wrong, but the higher temp exhaust gasses maintain a higher velocity which are better for flow and pressure wave dynamics throughout the system.

    It is explained here:

It's over my head but it sounds like it could be true.
