From the looks of all the aftermarket body kit crap someone had put on that poor Boxer, it could be said that was a blessing that it burned...
These modifications ofcourse were THE thing in the 80's. Matter of taste, but apparently (reading the other thread) this was an official Koenig conversion.Of all the aftermarket body kits, you would have to agree that Koenig was the one to have if you wanted one. I prefer original.
Anyone know if the the turn signal assembly off a '78bb is the same as an '83 bbi, and by assembly I mean the signal stalk assembly on steering column....thx
Wasn't there someone just a few weeks ago who posted a photo of an NOS Boxer rear body that they bought from some shop in Florida? Seems to me, that instead of chopping up a restorable car, the person with the car needs to get together with the owner of the rear body and make a deal and SAVE THE CAR!
tomgt has 2 boxer windshields for sale, one new, one used - seperate post last week sometime I thought. Car inst worth fixing and it was a bonnet not a boot that was bought new unless someone else just picked up a rear section I missed for some reason. Even if the car was free it would be too expensive to fix and if people dont part out cars like this, we dont have a supply of used parts to keep ours going and new parts are drying up in some cases.
Tomgt (Pedro) - did you receive my e-mail last week concerning Boxer windshield? I am interested. Also, are the front directional signal assemblies the same for the BB and BBi, and did they survive the fire? Jim S.
Why would you risk having one shipped from the Netherlands? Removing them from the car almost always damages or weakens them, so a used one is a waste of money IMO also. Re originals and many other domestic suppliers have Boxer windshields for decent prices.
Maybe and just look at all those pretty original 275's that wouldnt be around if a toasted twisted piece of garbage didnt give its life up to make that happen. Its a fact of life and if you had no dead corvettes to pluck parts from to make yours complete then you would have to settle for incorrect or repop parts which would be less than ideal. The front lights are the same shape and size but Ill tell you from experience (james) just this past saturday I tried to install a pair of used but mint orange lights in mine and found that the mounting holes dont line up. No big deal but it just shows that when the cars were made, they drilled the holes through the light into the body at the same time meaning no two holes are in exactly the same place because Tony put them where he felt like it on the assembly line.
Parts cars/damaged cars are such an intersting topic philosophically.... People who don't have said car, say "fix it" People who do have said car say "part it, (it makes mine more valuable anf the parts I need cheaper)"
Possibly true, but nobody in their right mind is going to part out a 1967 big block Corvette just because the rear deck is burned away in this day and time. Right now on E-Bay there is a 1967 small block Corvette body shell on a frame that is bid over $10,000. THAT's how badly some guys want to save a car. Doesn't a Ferrari that is far rarer deserve a similar fate?
Most Boxers are never parted out, you just can't find them like that they are always rebuilt. The guy here bought the car cheap and wants the motor only and is trying to make some of the purchase price back, it purely financial so this Boxer is done unless years from now they become so valuable and the frame is left they rebuild it.
