I am due to receive my black spyder gallardo this June or July. Now I am having second thoughts about the gallardo and wonder if I should infact , buy a Murci instead. Any comments or suggestions regarding the pros and cons of either car would be appreciated.

I have the G coupe and didn't think it was worth the extra $100,000+ for the Murcie. If money wasn't an issue, I would have gone big with the Murcie.

It just depends on the size of your check book!

I know this is the ferrari site and not lamborghini. However I am posting here because there will be many more members viewing this thread here instead of lamborghinichat and , with that, more opinions and knowledge. Here is my question: I should receive my black 2006 Gallardo spyder in June or July. However, I am now having second thoughts and wonder if I should, In fact , buy a Murci instead. I would like to hear pros and cons and any other opinions on my dilemma.

    Thanks

Good question. I began wondering that what I will pay for a spyder I could get a fairly new murci for about the same price and argueably a superior car by all accounts. I must admit I have driven neither car nor have I ever seen a spyder in the flesh. However, I have seen a Murci and it is a beautiful automobile.

FWIW, I think the Gallardo spyder looks amazing (from pics, at Sport Auto in NC). Black is the right color, and I'd guess driveability on public roads would be easier, esp. with the top down.

The Murci looks a bit much like Darth Vader's star destroyer.

Either car is frighteningly fast - almost to the point where performance numbers are irrelevant, IMO.

I think you made a great decision, although (1) I will only buy open cars for weekend use and (2) I like lightly used ones just to save the depreciation.

I think the Murci will hold a higher percentage of price in depreciation, but I would probably go for the Gallardo.

Keep the G spyder and order a '07 Murcielago coupe, have the best of both worlds.

When I went through this last fall,it came down to driveability.I went from a 993TT and I prefer the size and weight of the Gallardo over the Murci.
That being said,my next car will be either a Murci or a CGT.But I will keep the G. I like it that much.

Do want two spiders (360 and G)? Bail on the G spider and go for the Murcie.

I have the 360 coupe and the G coupe. Both great cars, but for what you are paying on a G spider, I would pay a little more for the Murcie.

You cant go wrong with either car. In the end I chose the Murci because I knew if I got a Murci I wouldn't wonder if I should have gotten the Gallardo. If I had gotten the Gallardo I would have always wondered if I should have gotten the Murci. Plus I wanted doors that go up, more power, and a better all around looking car. Now if you have to have a convertible go with the Gallardo Spyder, much easier to deal with than the Murci Roadster. I have my SL600 for a convertible so I went with the Murci Coupe for the above reasons.

How much of a difference is there in build quality and reliability between the G and the Murci?

I have been hearing different opinions but generally speaking it seems that the G is a better choice as far as those issures are concerned

I disagree completely. I owned a Murci, then bought a Gallardo. Then, sold the Murci. For my driving taste, the Gallardo is more fun (better handling, better braking, much improved interior, better visibility, etc) at very little performance difference.

Drive both, then decide. More money spent on a product does not necessarily make it "better".

There are some obvious differences that go beyond value, real or perceived. An open car is a joy to some, and not to others. Unless that doesn't matter to you, I don't see a basis for comparison. Keep in mind that the Murcie is a big car- yes, when you crank it up, it is going to seem smaller than it is, but you are driving a big dog. Used to be, you had to trade off torque to get tossability, but my impression is that the Gallardo is no slouch in the power department. (The magic of twelves seems to be their bottomless, pretty linear power).
In terms of power/weight, etc. I'll let someone better informed chime in on the differences between these two cars.
I saw the G spyder in the flesh for the first time a couple months ago, and there would be no shame in driving that car, particularly in black. :) As to Murcies holding value better, I'm dubious. The G spyder will probably be flavor of the month this summer, so if you are taking delivery soon, you could probably be out of it without much pain- I had the impression (correct me if I'm wrong, gang) that, unlike original G production, there weren't going to be a lot to go around at first.
Ultimately, I don't think any objective factor that someone else can offer will help you decide this.

In terms of beauty, the Gallardo Spider is the most beautiful car currently available. And, if you are a person that likes convertibles, this is the car to have.

Personally, I'm glad I have owned the Murci and the Gallardo, because now I know the Gallardo is my preference. To get me interested in the Murci again, they will either need to put 750hp in the car, or drop some weight off of it. Based on the current cars available, the Gallardo suits my needs as close to perfectly as possible.

I actually didn't like the way the brake pedal felt in the Gallardo. It took much more effort to press it down than in the Murci. The two toned interior (cream/red) that I have in my Murci looks far better than anything I have seen in any Gallardo. The egear on the Gallardo also had an inferior feel compared to the Murci egear. Another reason I went with the Murci is the sound in the cabin. You can hear the engine inside the cabin much louder in the Gallardo, some like this, but for me I prefer the quieter V12. The Gallardo did have more gadgets available, which I wish the Murci had. The trunk in the Gallardo is a lot smaller than in the Murci as well. At 6'5" I found the Murci a more comfortable fit for me. Obviously it comes down to personal choice and what the car is going to be used for. You really cant go wrong with either car.

In order to be sure, drive a Murcie and Gallardo...then you decide. If you are lucky enough to spend at least an hour in each, it should become clear. IMO you won't be sorry that you chose a Murcie.

I had the opposite experience with the brakes -- I find the brake feel superior in the Gallardo. To go one step further, the Murci has smaller brakes than the Gallardo, while being substantially heavier. As a driver that pushes my cars, I feel this quite readily. At the weight the Murci is carrying, it needs brakes that are bigger than the Gallardo.

As for the interior, you can buy the same 2-tone interior in the Gallardo as you can in the Murci. The ergonomics, visibility, and interior amenities are superior in the Gallardo. Having a Nav system with MP3 cards may sound silly, but it sure is nice.

As for the E-Gear in the Murci, I cannot comment. My Murci was stick, and my Gallardo is E-Gear.

As for the sound, it is totally subjective. Both sound great, and have lots of aftermarket exhaust choices.

As for trunk space, yes, the Murci has a larger trunk. However, the Gallardo has additional space behind the seats that does not exist in the Murci. I have taken the same amount of luggage in both cars.

I agree with the statement that you can't go wrong with either.
