NO! Austin is horrible, don't move here.
The RE taxes finance our public schools... but depending on where you live, your tax dollars may be funding other school districts (not your own). Some of our less fortunate school districts now have incredible football stadiums thanks to Robin Hood! The only negative about Austin is the traffic. But it is a GREAT place to live!
Nope, we don't care how they do it in California. Everyone comes here and wants to change it to be like 'back home' Code: "Welcome to Texas -- Brian Burns" Welcome to Texas, glad that you came down. You got lots of friends here, take a look around. They come from California, they come from Ohio. They come from Minnesota to get out of the snow. You dont like our drivin; you dont like our roads. You make fun of the way we talk, make fun of our clothes. But you clog up our highways, been pourin in for years; If you dont like the way we do it, what are you doin here? Welcome to Texas, Dont anybody get me wrong; Were glad yall came to see us, Just dont forget to go back home. Looka here: We dont need your politics, we dont need your prayers. We dont need your moral compass leadin us anywhere. We dont need your business, we dont need your art. We dont really give a damn what it was you did up north. Welcome to Texas, Dont anybody get me wrong; ah ah. Were glad yall came to see us, Just dont forget to go back home. Instrumental break. You gripe about our music; gripe about our food. Gripe about the weather here, say its way too hot for you. We hear all your whinin, and it starts wearin thin, When we see our milk and honey runnin down your chin. So come on down to Texas, have yourself a ball. Take the kids to Six Flags, and the wife out to the mall. Have a good vacation, but then dont hesitate, To point your car back up the road to that outbound interstate. Welcome to Texas, Dont anybody get me wrong; Don't get me wrong. Were glad yall came to see us, Now dont forget to go back home. Get on gone, ha ha. Instrumental fade out.
Heck, unless you're all Native Americans, you're all outsiders, if you trace it back far enough!! And yes, I was born here, in Galveston. Dad came from Italy to meet mom and live here, thank God!! Greg
Also, the film undustry seems to really like Austin. They don't call Austin "Hollywood Hills" for nothing.
I'l book a flight this weekend to visit in about three weeks. It would be my luck to buy a home prior to a housing boom, my $500K home doubles in four years, leaving me with a $27K property tax bill. THAT would be a tough pill to swallow. Do any home buyers put their Sr. parents on the deed to hedge against this?
It would not (By any noticable amount). Example: I bought my home in CA in '95 for $170K and my yearly property tax is about $2K. The home is now worth about $750K and my tax bill is still about $2K a year. If I sold my house on Saturday and bought it back a week later, my new bill would be around $9K!
Property taxes here are much higher. In San Antonio it is about $3000+ per 100k of value. It goes up it seems once a year when they up the values.
I have to reasearch this over the weekend, but a friend of mine called me yesterday and said that there is a bill in Texas that may be passed to lower property taxes. Anybody up on this? I should be visiting Austin in 3-4 weeks to check things out.
Got it, thanks. I'll have to dig up some addresses and also use that link when I visit Austin....My Neice is playing hooky there today and going to the lake at 90oF!!!!()&#%%$&^@*&#!
Unfortunatley, this is not correct. Property values get apraised every year. So, if your property value gets appraised at double what you paid for it 10 years later, then that is what you will pay taxes on. You can fight the increase, but it will still increase. While most of Austin is at about 2.74%, some communities charge higher. Steiner Ranch is in the threes. Just remeber that there are no state income taxes.
