Not really Ferrari related but speeding in Italy is relevant for a lot of Ferrari owners ;)

Riccardo Ruggiero, a Italian business man from Telecom Italia has been caught speeding on a highway in Northern Italy. He said to the police he only wanted to test his new Porsche (not even a Ferrari! ;)).
The fine he received is peanuts for a guy like him, just 375 euro... Sidenote; on top of that he also has to give up his driving licence for 1 or 3 months...

Well, seems like some people can still speed without too much worries there...

Alex, it usually works this way:
Police stops you and if you have exceeded the limit of more than 40 km/h, give you the fine, takes your licence away immediately and gives a permission to drive home through the shorter itinerary.
The problem is not the money, this guy will certainly be banned from driving for at least 3 months. New rule being introduced says that he could possibly be obliged to go through new exams to get his licence. And, belive me, that is not good.
    Ciao

So why did he stop for the police? I bet he could have gone faster.

It could be that the judge considered time and place relavent to this violent. If it doesn't endanger the public, then.... it's his own neck.

    Just another bit of information...
Mr. Riccardo Ruggiero is not simply "a manager", he is the CEO of Telecom Italia. It means a VERY, VERY powerful man with a LOT of political connections.
I'd be surprised if he gets the standard treatment. Regrettably in Italy you can get away with a lot of things if you are part of the inner circles :( .

It´s quite different here in Spain. If a Spanish driver is caught at 311 km/h he´ll go to jail and won´t drive anything faster than a Vespa for the rest of his live. But those foreign guys of the Gumball wich were fooling around here a year ago just spent one night at jail and got a fine.

What will happen if you drive 300 km/hr as a foreigner? You will have to pay your fine, but can they take away your license?

They will confiscate your car ( called deed weapon....or something like this), go to jail, pay cash or credit card a lots of money and all the paper work regarding your licence will arrive at your local police office - EU law :(

Ah! So maybe that is not a good idea!
Then how is it possible that those Gumball guys get away with it?

That is the letter of the law.
Some time ago I got caught speeding at 115 in a 70 km/h limit zone in Italy. That happened on an empty road, no intersection, in the middle of nowhere. Police knows that nobody respects the limit and placed a hidden camera for easy revenues.
I have an English licence, Ferrari is in Maura's name and registered on our Italian address.
As soon as the police realised the sheer amount of papers they had to fill in order to notify the English DVLA of my infraction, recorded speed became 109 (39 Km/h over the limit) and a 250 € ticket was issued. So if you are not a resident you have good chances to go away simply with a fine.
    Ciao

P.S. In the Philippines speed limit is 100 km/h. For speeders, a terrible fine of 500 Pesos (almost 9 euros) is in place. Regrettably it is very difficult to speed unless you are on one of the two motorways...

Yeah, same thing would happen to Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat, and his Maserati MC12... Because yes, he has one.

A Porsche Carrera GT is a normal Porsche. You can buy one right off our showroom floor. I see them everyday.

Got stopped in Spain, going about 200 on the road to Barcelona (Highway 5?), from Valencia (after the motogp race last year) Cop couldn't understand me, I couldn't understand him. No ticket, no fine, no nothing. I thought that was pretty good.

At least it used to be the case but cars in the Mille Miglia were effectively encouraged to go as fast as possible. I recall traveling through a town (more like a wide spot in the road) at over 220kph. Some of the faster cars were doing some serious speeds. Coming into one town, running late to a check point, a cop saw me really moving and pulled out with his lights going, waved to me, and led me through to the check point clearing traffic for me. I was four wheel drifting through turns, and he was scrapping his pegs going through turns. Great enthusiasm! George
