Get on Antibiotics.

 

Antibiotics don't work against viruses, only on bacteria. If you have allergies, need allergy meds.

In the meantime...

Take acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxen.
Gargle with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of water).
Suck on throat lozenges or hard candy.
Suck on flavored frozen desserts (such as Popsicles).
Use a humidifier in your bedroom or other rooms you spend lots of time in.
Drink lots of liquids.
Most importantly, suck on real or fake cans.

 

Gargle with salt water and pound down fresh garlic. You will be presenting away in a day!

 

Do what Wax said............lots of hot water (as hot as you can handle) and salt gargling (30 seconds at a time) will kill the pain...........it'll have to be done once an hour for the next 5-6 hours............works like a charm !!

For me personally, taking anyting after the gargle kills the effect.....so I would contradict Wax here and say do not eat or drink anything afterwards, except for maybe washing out your mouth to get rid of the salt taste and spitting it in the sink. The idea is to let the salted water stay on your throat passages untouched.

 

Well if that's wrong, I don't wanna be right!

Strep, perhaps? You might want to go to a doctor--especially if you've got important biz in the next couple of days...

Sorry to hear that. I had a horrible sore throat two weeks ago following a trip to the ER. Lasted nearly a week and the only thing that even slightly helped was Motrin.

 

sounds like the tonsilitis I repeatedly had when I was a kid. finally had them yanked out.

 

If it's that bad, I agree with the above advice to have a rapid strep test done. If positive, you need antibiotics. If it isn't strep and is viral, the symptomatic stuff is all you can do. Clinically, you cannot tell if it is strep or not, so I'd do the test.
