I'm going to be in Lower Manhattan on Friday for a recruiting presentation from Bear Stearns and a tour of the Federal Reserve with the finance club from my college. We are getting free time from 3:30 until 7 and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what could be done in that area at that time. Are there any interesting exotic car showrooms or anything at that end of the island?

    Thanks,
    Erik

I'm not too familiar with the NYC area, but I'd definitely recommend checking out the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. The Concorde used by British Airways to cover their JFK - LHR route is parked next to the aircraft carrier, which has all kinds of historic warplanes, fighter jets and helicopters parked on its deck (an F14, F16, Harrier, Vietnam Huey Helicopter, Spitfire and SR71 Blackbird, to name a few).

I can't help you with Ferrari/exotics dealers, sorry.

Exactly. Erik - don't miss this opportunity to stand out as the kid that stayed after, when the others went to play, to dig deeper, network and learn more. They will remember you.

Yeah I definitely would prefer to do that, but we are going from the recruiting presentation to the Federal Reserve and I don't think the people at the Fed would appreciate (or even let) me hang around. I think one of the professors is leading a walking tour of the financial district, which sounds interesting, but I would rather be meeting people/learning things then looking at buildings...failing that I was looking for something to keep me occupied.

So don't worry, that is more of a priority on my list then cars, but it seems we have a pretty tight itinerary until 3. If I had a chance I would probably give up the tour of the Federal Reserve to spend the day at Bear Stearns.

Agree with the others about networking, if that's possible. Otherwise, check out South Street Seaport, Chinatown, Ground Zero, or just take the walking tour of the financial district with the prof. Going to the Intrepid would be fun, but you'll have to hop a cab to get uptown. The rest you can do by just walking around.

Go to Lombardis in Little Italy for some brick oven pizza, then hit Mahattan Motorcars. All of the above posts are also good suggestions.

As far as I know, there's only a BMW dealer down here - and they didn't have anything special in the showroom.

You might be able to do a tour of the NY Mercantile Exchange, but I'd get on the phone with them ASAP to arrange.

They already have. Networking can start in the most unexpected places...
