What do you think of this as a clothing label name? Trying to do a little experiment... please reply with NOTHING but comments about the name. NOTHING ELSE PLEASE The label's name is BAPE ( Bathing APE)
I would not buy it (design aside), aside from maybe comedic value. Comedic value dies fast in the trend world.
When you say bathing APE, is that ape like the primate? or is there some foreign pronunciation that we're not getting? If I liked the clothes, I wouldn't care what the name was, unless Ape was plastered across the chest of the shirt or something.
Don't like it, first association is "RAPE". At least, if you'd called it "RAPE" to begin with, it would offend some people, but others would like it for the shock value (like "****"). This way is neither here nor there.
I agree. You will get laughed out of stores if not just thrown out. So unless your market is the "Spencers" and "Pricillas" of the world, I would say you are done with "BAPE."
What am I missing? BAPE is already a cult brand, almost impossible to get hold of. I personally do not like it too much.
apparentley the purpose of the name is to show the shallowness of japan's youth. something like bathing in lukewarm water bla bla bla. $1000 a tshirt!!!
Bathing Ape? Maybe for a 2 year old. It can go on the rack next to Dora the Explororer and Spongebob.
Yes the purpose was to see what people think of these stupid names but people ruined it already whatever.... A Bathing Ape is a huge hit with the japanese market and now is GROWING in the U.S. whoever said Bape is going out is way off They are growing and growing especially with the new Ice Cream label that they basically own
With the right marketing team and if you can get a celeb to wear your brand...consumers will eat it up.
Exactly. Never underestimate some in the American population. That said, your 'sample' isn't exactly representative of the US as whole or that of the likely target market of the BAPE line, hence the responses you are seeing above.
the new ICE CREAM label they had is all Celebrity following (Pharrel) but with the BAPE line they really didn't have a spokes person or Celebrity BAPE was just a limited edition clothing line in Japan that gained a cult following
I know the demographic for this "test" wasn't correct but i wanted to get like 30 people at least before it was ruined I just wanted to know what this kind of demographic thinks of this market to gain a feel of the direction I'm going with my clothing line. Thank you to everyone who did reply
I'm a twenty year old lady. And I tell you, I would not wear something that says "ape" on it. I especially would not want to have been associated with an ape as a teenager.
Old Navy had a season where one of their embroidered polo shirt logos was a whale - what a phenominally bad choice for girls' clothes to have a whale on it.
There are certain things I'd never want my clothes to represent me as (a riverbarge, "The girl your boyfriend dreams about", etc) I could deal with cute whales. Monkeys would have been ok, apes are not.
