I'm happy to hear your cat made it.

I understand the feeling. My neighbor shot my cat a few years ago. Another neighbor saw it. The cat didn't survive his expensive surgery. My parents called the police, but they wouldn't do ballistics if its not an animal. Nothing we could do.

WooHoo. Now find the sod who did it. Glad to hear a family member was not lost. May he heal swiftly.

Where can we send a get-well kitty toy for Schumi? As soon as I read the first post my heart just sunk, because I can't understand how anyone would do that to an animal like that. Please give him a scratch on the head from everyone here at F-chat.

BTW, I think you should report this to the authorities as animal cruelty, since there may be other incidents and it may help track down the person who did this. I don't buy the rabbit hunting excuse, since you should see your target before you shoot rather than shooting blindly into some rustling grass.

Are there any bird watchers or bird lovers near you that have bird feeders around? Many "bird" people hate cats because they are natural bird hunters. Maybe somebody doesn't like your cat near their bird feeders.

I'm sooo sorry to hear that someone would do this. I am glad your cat is going to be ok. I hope this isn't a sign that someone wants to harm you and your family.

    Joke's on them.

A bird feeder is a great vector for bird killing diseases, no better way of spreading disease in what would otherwise be fairly solitary animals.

I really hope that the kitty will recover. I am not sure if you had a chance to talk to police, but make sure to express concern for your own safety. Afterall, you found the cat at home. Shot. You never know where those kids or whoever else will aim the gun (I am saying this for you to bring up with police, not to scare you).

You have a legitimate concern and police have to find and punish that jerk.

We have 2 kitties at home and I can't imagine being in your situation. Best wishes to all of you!

There have been several instances of people attacking horses in pastures here in Arkansas. One friend of mine had his horse slashed across the chest with a knife. Other horses have been shot. The world has no shortage of evil losers who do such things.

I'm glad you reported it. While true not much can be done immediately it adds up in the investigative process. And I'm serious when I say that type behavior can lead to more serious crime.

I can't tell you how happy I am that Schumi is going to make it ! Cats are fighters, just like people, they will pull through if someone loves them enough. :)

Sorry to hear about this - some sick **** must have done something like that.

Is there someone in your area who hates your cat or who b!tches about the cat being in their yard or some such?

Can't be easy to fire off a gun in the neighborhood without someone hearing or seeing something.

Offer a reward, find out who did it, and give them a blanket party, or call cops/sue, or both.

First I'd like to say that I'm happy to hear that a recovery is in the cards for at least one Schumi this season. ;)

Secondly, I'd like to express dismay that absolutely everyone simply assumed that this was a premeditated attack against the cat. Even after we were told of rabbit hunting in the adjoining field.

Are we that convinced that everyone on the planet is evil? As people have said, "who does that kind of thing?" -- at least, who does that on purpose?

Even Dick Cheney has hunting accidents.

Maybe you should get Schumi an orange vest.

Or an orangish "rosso" driving suit. :p

Hope he'll soon be lapping as fast as ever - from his milk dish!

    Unbelievable.

    Hope Schumi heals up OK.

Amazing how quickly animals bounce back, a human would be in the ICU for 6 weeks!

God, that is repulsive. So cruel.

I am wishing Schumi a speedy recovery.

Was it a BB gun or a regular gun like a .22?
