You're confusing issues. Freedom of expression by itself is a noble principle. However, when you use it to promote sleaze, well, you make it sleazy.

It's easy to say, "oh, just don't click on it." But it's not only there as a constant temptation, it's prescence lowers the identity of the site. Web filtering software is starting to register Fchat as a pornographic site. This is with a human reviewer to comes to see what's on it.

What IS it then? If it's not to scintillate, then what? Many of those pictures have the names of porno sites in the corners - which leads me to believe that their purpose is not "art" or some "celebration of the female form," but material to sell to turn men on, usually at the expense of a girl who needs money.

Yet Forza, arguably the most popular Ferrari magazine, doesn't pander. I don't see a lot of it in C&D, Road & Track, Autoweek, CAR, and others.

The calendar might not stop people from buying Pirelli, but what percentage of their buyers at Costco, WalMart and Bob's discount tires see it? Do you think anyone buys their tires because of the calendar?

Just because something gets attention doesn't make it proper. Typically the most scandalous or improper things get paid attention to.

The question here is whether the bikini thread should be moved, not eliminated. There is also the assertion from Rob that all such materials shouldn't be on the board anywhere but the two threads identified. OOT shouldn't have to be a minefield of "NWS" material - there are 74 billion sites for that, if you want it, feel free to do so elsewhere, as is your freedom.

However, bringing it here could be likened to a cat bringing back a rotting rabbit carcass back into the house and setting it in the living room. Is that what you want guests to see? Do you honestly leave Playboy on your coffeetable at home for visitors to peruse? Is that what you want your kids to be a part of? Most people keep that stuff hidden away where the public is not invited.

Ryan, I actually was trying to separate the issues, I felt Rob had inadvertently made them sound equivalent. And the bikini thread does not "promote sleaze" for the greater part. The fake boobs thread is another issue, as are a few others.

Bikini thread does not make FChat a pornographic site, but again, some of the other thread titles/content can. And self restraint is an individual quality, and cannot nor should not be "legislated". Our site is quite tame compared to virtually all the other similar sized forums I visit.

Sorry, but the pics I personally post are models who are famous, well paid, and omnipresent on the web. I don't go to porn sites, and if you check another forum associated with this one, you'll find I rarely post there, and usually just a topless pic. I think only one pic out of ALL pics of mine in the BT was ever commented on by Rob, and I fixed it.
It IMHO does celebrate women, and I seriously doubt any of the girls I post "need the money", nor do most of the ones Steve posts.

The BT is not a rotting rabbit carcass, nor a Playboy. I agree about the minefield of NWS, but that is a mod issue, and as one of the 2 largest posters in the BT, I feel there is little of shame in it. If it is felt to be that way, then it is that persons issue, not the thread's.

I would be scared to put their stuff on my computer, rather simplistic web site looks more like one of those fake "spyware removal" pages to me. I wouldn't expect a serious web filtering software company to run ads along the bottom of their pages either. Assuming they are legit though it looks like they have a tiered rating system and unless we were to restrict things very heavily the current level of discussion here would probably warrant a mid level rating along the lines of a " reference databases, dictionaries, CNN News or an AIDS awareness site". The pictures here in the bikini section wouldn't warrant a rating equivalent to even soft porn like Playboy. Safe Eyes is very clearly geared for parents who want to keep young children from accidentally wandering into something they shouldn't be seeing. I dunno what Rob's thoughts might be but my opinion is that FChat is a web site for adults. Half the trolls are kids so good riddance As a moderator I'm not terribly worried about rmaking it fit the definition of "safe" established by a web filtering company that is set up for a bunch of kids who aren't old enough to drive. The site shouldn't be overrun with NSFW type materiel as we don't want people to be suprised by something while browsing at work which is why it's being restricted to the Bikini Thread.

If Steve's recent family issue settles a bit, can we be mods for that kind of stuff? Maybe consultants on the BT? At least we are known entities(oops I said tities ), and we shall use our limited powers for the good of the fabulous babes everywhere(only in BT).

Why not to prohibit pics of ugly, plain w***s on our so popular bikini thread? Like the one on the last page: disguised by a pound of make-up face, crooked-fat-cellulite covered legs, those.. those boots (if those things can be called that) - offensive pictures from the category "trailer trash porn".

Having friends who were and are in a modeling business I like scrolling through the pictures on this thread. It really ruins it when scrolling down and enjoying tasteful photo's of someone like beautiful Adriana you bump into that puky neon pink ""lady"". You have no choice but to be exposed to her (I guess, it's "her") appalling spread out ****, hang-open jaw and a dog leash on a middle-age person ... ugh!

If there are guys (and I am sure, there are plenty of them here) getting aroused by that type of pictures, why not to have a separate porno thread for them where they can *** of?

Sorry for throwing this out into open, but that's the first set of pics that really disgusted me and I believe, a lot of other people, who won't say it loud.

Ryan, I admire you for sticking to your principles. I even agree with you that F-Chat needs to focus more on cars and Ferraris and less on all this juvenile trash talking. You're absolutely right that there are plenty of places on the Internet where you can find unlimited porn, but there aren't a whole lot of places where you can read about Ferraris and all that.

Thus, I find all of John Lamor's threads about his wife getting breast implants, or calling someone a homo, or whatever to be very boring. Darth's and Matteo's posts have also gotten very repetitive and boring. It seems as if some folks are posting just to see their words in print. I'm sure that there is someone in the world who cares about what they say, but I don't.

However, it appears that you are, as we say in Texas, pissing into the wind. Like it or not, this is the way of F-Chat. I do my best to avoid all these threads. In fact, I have been avoiding looking at this thread because I knew what I'd find even before I opened it. Sad to say, I haven't been disappointed.

My advice is to just give it up. There have been (and, I'm sure, continue to be) some very entertaining and informative posts on F-Chat. Go to the racing section and reread Jon Kolford's post on Senna if you need an example of what I'm talking about. You just need to ignore the rest.
